 Extremely Effective in Picking Up Pet Hair and Dust |

Must-have features:
- Suction power. Great suction power.
- Lift-off feature. For use on stairs.
- Bagless.
- Dedicated on-off switch for brush. To vacuum wood floor without brush.
- Brush automatically turns off when unit is at upright position. Save brush and carpet wear-and-tear when using attachments.
- Furniture protection rubber guard.
Nice-to-have features, but not absolutely needed:
- Pet brush. "Pet" model means unit come with a Turbo Pet Brush attachment. Pet brush has rubber claws, which grab hair as you rake the surface of carpet or sofa. It is somewhat useful, but not to die for. Buy the Lift-Off models only if you want the must-have features. You can buy the Turbo Pet Brush attachment separately for $29.
Useless features (just marketing):
- Head light.
I was interested in buying the Bissell Lift-Off, but there is lack of info on the web to compare the 2 Bissell Lift-off models: Multiclylonic (89Q9) and Revolution. Rather than just a generic review, I will try to describe the difference between Lift-Off Revolution and Multicyclonic. Their sucking power seems similar. The visible differences are (1) dirt container, (2) upper tank right above the dirt container, and color.
(1) Dirt Container. Multicylconic and Revolution has different design. Small advantage to Multicyclonic. Multicylonic has 2 compartments; 1 cylinder in center and 1 large outer compartment. Revolution has single main compartment, plus 2 additional small dust chambers that extend out from chamber. I don't see any special impact or effect to the various compartments. But one thing I don't like on the Revolution is the 2 additional dust chambers with removable inserts, which are a mess to handle and clean.
The dirt container is the same size on both units. These units suck up so much hair and dust that the dirt containers need to be emptied after cleaning couple rooms. I have 2 short hair cats. The hair will clump together and rotate in the dirt container. As the container fills up (maybe 1/2 to 3/4 full), some hair will remain in the upper tank and not drop down into the dirt container.
(2) Upper tank. This is where the 2 units vary the most. Overall, I give the advantage to Multicyclonic, due to ease of cleaning, particularly with less hair trapped in upper tank. Revolution does have 1 added feature: upper tank can be removed, which is less messy to clean up.
- Upper tank filter size. Multicylonic has more open space in upper tank right above the dirt container. That means less likely for hair to get trapped. Revolution has large filter component that leaves a small gap to the compartment wall. Hair is more likely to get trapped. You can read the review for Revolution. And this is a major complaint for some users. Big advantage for Multicyclonic over Revolution here.
- Filter material. The upper tank on Multicylonic uses only plastic components, whereas Revolution has foam filter in upper tank. Both can be washed and rinsed out, but plastic is just easier and faster to clean. Another advantage for Multicyclonic.
- Removable upper tank on Revolution. The upper tank on Revolution is removable, but fixed on Multicyclonic. The positive for Revolution is that I can remove both upper tank and dirt container and empty them in the garbage can. On the Multicylonic, after bottom dirt container is removed, some remaining dust can drop down from the upper tank right onto the vacuum body. |

Actually I just bought one of these yesterday and tried it last night. So far I'm very impressed. It has easy maneuvering and isn't too heavy. The power and suction were great. It picked up pet hair and bird seed with ease. With the main brush turned off, it does a great job on bare floors. I tried the extension wand with the rolling brush pet attachment. It quite impressed me, making it easy to clean pet hair from upholstery. The canister can detach from the main vacuum frame for mobility into tight places or to make it easier to vacuum car upholstery. When done, it pops easily back into place.
The extra attachments were a little difficult to lock into place both when being used and when being stored. That is only a small inconvenience though and I've owned other vacuums of different brands that had those types of issues. I do think this vacuum will be the best one I've ever owned, and with dogs, cats and birds in the house, we go through a vacuum about once a year. Bissell makes really good products. I also own a carpet steam cleaner made by them and it has been a good machine.
This vacuum has two filters that must be kept clean to maintain performance. One is on the front and one on the back of the machine. They are both easily accessible. The electrical cord is extra long which is another feature that I love. The collection bin is easy to remove for emptying and locks easily back into place. Overall, I'm very happy with this machine and I definitely think it is worth the money. |

Our old Dirt Devil upright started giving off some burning smells (not the brush belt) a couple of weeks ago, so we decided to start looking around for a replacement. We have a two story house, so something to effectively vacuum the stairs without purchasing two units would be nice. Oh, and under $200 please. Dyson's are cute, but $500 is over the top for such a basic device. That led us eventually to Bissell's two lift-off canister units, the Revolution and this one, the MultiCyclonic design.
Initially, I couldn't tell the difference between the two models. Then, another reviewer pointed out the two "wings" on the side of the dirt container on the Revolution model that one customer accidentally threw its two inserts out with the dirt, only to render his vacuum useless the next time he tried to use it. That narrowed it down to the MultiCyclonic for us. The Revolution also has an additional foam filter to be cleaned in its top section, which the MultiCyclonic doesn't use, which was one less consumable to buy.
Both units have a special tool for grabbing pet/human hair off the furniture and the carpet, powered by the suction in the hose, and it works just fine. After "turbo" brushing our carpeted stairs, I had to take the tool apart with a phillips screwdriver, which entailed removing two screws and gently pulling the unit apart. I paid attention so I could put it back together correctly, but it was easy to clean out the hair clogging the unit, and to put it back together.
Some have commented that the unit seems noisy to them, but I actually found it quieter than my old Dirt Devil upright. I also found the suction from the 12 amp motor to be completely adequate. Although some have reported they were wowed with its power, because it was quieter it didn't seem any more powerful to me than my old Dirt Devil had been in its day.
Another reviewer felt the unit was too heavy. I'm 62, short, an avid reader, and certainly NOT athletic, and had NO problems hauling it around.
Another commenter noted that the central dirt/cyclonic unit on the Revolution was completely removable, allowing the whole messy part of the vacuum to be hauled to the trash can for emptying, whereas only the dirt receptacle is directly removable in the MultiCyclonic unit. This is basically true. Removing the dirt receptacle for emptying in the MultiCyclonic allows dust/dirt hanging around above it to fall on the unit, requiring a wipe-up if you're not careful. But, it's easy to reach up and remove the cyclonic unit with a twist and clean it. A regular clean-up after a major vacuuming will minimize the potential mess. A well placed paper towel will catch any dirt dropping down from the top of the cyclonic unit.
I didn't have any problems with the hose connections, cleaning the foam filter, or removing/replacing the HEPA filter on the back of the unit. The extension rod uses a friction twist to lock it into a variable length, and it worked fine. After two hours of vacuuming around the house, I had NO problems with dirt/dust blowing out of any of the hose or filter connections, so I can only assume the reviewer who had the problem had perhaps not been performing regular cleanup/maintenance of the unit, or had inadvertently allowed a hose connection to come loose. When putting the unit together, you have to twist a hose into a connection to lock it in place. If you don't perform the twist, I suppose it could pop out at an inopportune time, but this is a suction line. I don't see any way that anything could blow out of it. The exhaust is via the HEPA filter on the back of the unit, literally inches from the exit of the suction motor. If dirt is squirting out around the foam filter atop the suction motor, it must be mostly clogged. There's really no excuse for this. Take the foam filter to the sink and rinse it out and you're done. Be sure it's dry before reinserting it, or you'll be risking getting moisture into the motor, never a good thing for an electrical thingy.
Overall, my first impression of the unit is quite positive. Unless there's some underlying defect, I see no reason not to expect years of satisfaction with our new Bissell 89Q9 MultiCyclonic vacuum cleaner. |

We were looking for a mid-priced pet hair vacuum and purchased this one and LOVE it! We were concerned that the vacuum would be heavy to manuever, but this vacuum is practically self propelled when it is on. The lift out canister is awesome. It makes it easier to get into the nooks and crannies and vacuum the stairs. We have a small dog and it is great to be able to vacuum up the small areas and corners easily so that he doesn't get to anything. His hair is also picked up very easily by the pet brush. Also, we have a mixture of carpet and hardwood floors and it does well on each. I wish that there was one setting lower for the hardwood floors, but it is not a big deal.
The thing that amazed me the most was how much it picked up out of the carpet. We vacuumed behind our own vacuum and the canister was a quarter of the way full with debris and dirt! Pretty amazing!! I even took the vacuum to my Mom's house and we were able to fill the whole canister even after going behind her vacuum!
The only con is that it is pretty noisy. We have had a few complaints from our downstairs neighbors, but it hasn't stopped us from using it! |

| After vacuuming our home with our Oreck, we purchased this Bissell 89Q9 later in the day, and to say we were amazed when we saw all it pulled out of our carpets would be putting it mildly. It's hard to explain until you see it. You will be amazed to see what comes out of (what you believe to be) your already vacuumed carpets. Our carpets look like we just cleaned them. The bag-less canister is very easy to take off and empty. The snap off vacuum canister feature is also very easy to use. It's large back wheels make maneuvering a snap. The feature to turn the brush off for hardwood or ceramic floors is also a unique feature that works geat. We have carpets with different naps, and it pulls and cleans exceptionally at any nap length. It was exceptionally easy to put together as well. I not only give this vacuum five stars, but an A+ in value. |
Dyson VS Bissell

I just went out and bought this because I was annoyed with the pet hair- AND how some Dyson models just don't have the right attachment. You have to pay an arm and a leg to get these special brushes.
It was a pain cleaning the upholstery with the Dyson. You pull out the telescopic thingamabobber, then squeeze on the attachment...blech.
So I just got this today. I am amazed how much dust the pet hair attachment picks up.
Another thing- I am guessing both have the same amount of suction or cleaning abilities. I ran across the carpet with the Dyson first, then used the Bissell. WOW... it picked up more dust!!
In another room I did the opposite...used the Bissell first then the Dyson... The Bissell seems to be doing a good job (or better) than the Dyson.
If you want to buy a cheap vacuum that is like a Dyson, buy this. I love how the canister detaches and I can just drag it around (or carry) with ease.
I don't think I'll buy a Dyson again, unless the prices dramatically fall... or this breaks. We'll see how long this lasts. |

This is a great vacuum. Having read 350+ reviews for this item (don't limit yourself to Amazon), I felt that this vacuum was for me. I also felt that buying from anywhere that doesn't have a physical store would be a mistake. That is a decision that I am so glad I made. I purchased this vacuum from Bed, Bath & Beyond (BB&B) in my town. It was priced for $179.99. I used my 20% off coupon that I get in the mail. I set it up in 5 mins. I am one of those boring people that read that manual cover to cover...which took 20 mins. I started in my bedroom. Wow! My old vac had lost its power and though I vacuumed 5 days a week (I'm not kidding) the carpet never looked clean. Dog hair from my beagle was permanently embedded into the carpet fibers. I had sadly decided that having a dog meant never having truly clean carpet. Boy was I wrong! Once I flipped the switch for the Turbobrush my carpet fibers lifted and cleaned! 5 yrs. worth of beagle fur were removed from my carpet! I had to empty the cup twice! I felt joy & sick at what we had been living with.
I was about to move on to my daughter's bedroom when the unthinkable happened. The Turbobrush stopped. I used the manual and did everything it suggested. I cleaned the Turbobrush. I even prayed. It quit spinning after one room. Instead of being mad and calling it a piece of junk, I looked at my bedroom carpet. Old carpet that can never look new, but that was truly clean and actually stood up. It was always squashed flat but now the fibers were lifted upright with lovely vacuum patterns and I new that this was the vacuum for me. Hubby & I called customer service from Bissell. They were wonderful! We spoke to a human right away. They walked us through steps and spent 20 minutes with us. They offered to replace it and send parts. We declined. BB&B has a terrific store policy. If something breaks, even 2 yrs. +, return it (I promise I don't work for them!). My hubby called the store and spoke to a manager. They said they didn't have another one and the closest store that carried one was a few hours away. Instead, we packed up the vacuum and returned it to BB&B. They ordered a new one to be shipped to us, free of charge. It was delivered in 3 days. It was a shiny new one and I use it 3 times a week (my Beagle sheds). I have owned it for 3 months now and it has never given me a moments trouble. We think maybe the first one had been dropped or something. It doesn't matter, because we own a quality vacuum that works just as well as a Dyson. We are on Dave Ramsey's plan and couldn't justify spending $500+ on a vacuum.
I feel I must tell a little more, so bear with me if you will. We suffer from allergies in my home, which led to the removal of all the carpet except the bedrooms. Our beautiful Brazilian cherry wood floors are so very lovely and I try to protect them. We also had new textured tile installed in the bathroom and laundry room. The bumpy texture of the tile ended up scratching my old vacuum wheels. The damaged wheels started leaving little scratches on my beautiful wood floors. I love the lift-off canister because of this! I live in a one story home, so though this feature was probably made with stairs in mind, I use it to protect my wheels on the Bissell. No longer do I have to drag my vacuum into the laundry room and bathroom. I just use the extension hose and carry the canister. The wheels remain safe and unscarred. Also, this allows me to carry it into the garage and vacuum my car.
The upholstery attachment it great! I can clean my couches in no time! A major plus for me. Also, I love that I can turn off the Turbobrush and vacuum my wood floors. It cleans carpet and wood beautifully.
It's con time. There are a few design elements that I would change if I could. They are not enough to deter me from giving this vacuum a 5 star rating though. If I do not hold the cord at all times I run over it. Also, when you remove the dirt cup, dirt and dust fall from above and dirty the surface of your vacuum. I have tried being careful, but it still happens sometimes. I have a little cheap dust buster that I use when this happens. No big deal for me.
Don't be conned into thinking that you have to break the bank to buy a decent vac. If your vac messes up, don't flip out like so many other posters have done. Call the number or take it back to the store. Warranties are there for a reason, to protect your investment.
One more thing, this vacuum requires a new HEPA filter every 6 months. The filter is priced between $12 - 16. I was at Lowe's last week (April 2010) and the HEPA filter was on sale for 73 cents a piece. I bought all six. I am good on filters for 3 1/2 years.

We've now had this vacuum for 9 months of heavy use.
With two longhair cats, and a really big house, I too have found this vac weighs a few pounds, but I knew this going in because I read THE WEIGHT PRINTED ON THE BOX.
I empty the cup often because unlike every other Pet Vac I've ever had, this one actually picks up cat fur! I've never had any blow back issues with this vacuum, and being able to detach the mid section is one of the most useful features I've seen on any vacuum cleaner. The motorized couch attachment picks up fur, peanuts, and dirt better than the entire Dyson unit I replaced with this vacuum.
If you have any problem with any attachment, just bring back the attachment, and get another one. Don't give up on this vacuum cleaner. It is by far the best, and most dependable vacuum I've ever had.

I read a lot of reviews before purchasing this vacuum. I have two cats and carpet in my apartment. I've only used this vacuum once (as of writing this review) but can I just say HOLY COW! Just to compare, I vacuumed the apartment with our 12 year old Miele that was still in pretty good condition. Then I vacuumed again with the Bissell. I filled up THREE CANISTERS full of cat hair, dust and other carpet nasties. I'm really impressed, especially considering the price. I'll update the review as I use this more, but here are my quick pros and cons:
PROS:
Really gets the dirt and cat hair up
Love the detachable canister for cleaning stairs and upholstry
Love the HEPA filter
Love the pet hair special attachment (wish I could actually use it on the cats themselves)
$20 rebate at Bed, Bath and Beyond until mid-April 2010
Multiple settings for high and low pile carpets
Love the extra long cord
CONS
A little on the heavy side (at least compared to my little Miele)
The plastic parts feel a wee bit cheap
Not high on Consumer Reports list (if that matters to you)
I originally was going to buy the Bissell Healthy Home vacuum, but after trying to maneuver it in the store, I felt like the MultiCyclonic Pet was easier to handle. The Healthy Home just felt big and awkward compared to this.

| I have gone through a couple of Hoover vacuums in recent years. Excellent suction, but cheap build. After tossing out the latest Hoover, I decided to try the Bissell. I have only had it for about a month, so I cannot comment fairly on its longevity. However, I can say that it seems solid as a rock. A tad heavier than my previous vacuum, but maybe that's a good thing. I have used it 4 or 5 times and have found the suction to be very good. I cannot say enough about the lift-off canister! It has made cleaning stairs much, much easier. And the pet hair "claw" attachment does a great job. The Bissell is much quieter than my previous vacuum cleaners, too. So far, so good. I am very pleased with the purchase. Got a great deal through Amazon! |

We have a golden retriever. Need I say more? We love him but, like all goldens, he sheds incessantly. So when my old, never-effective Hoover finally uttered its final breath, I went looking for a good vacuum that could handle the pet hair.
After considering and rejecting the Dysons because I didn't want to invest $500 in this item, I looked at the Shark products after someone told me they rival the Dyson. I just didn't feel it; they seemed somehow lacking, and they were over the $200 mark, which was the ceiling I had set. So it finally came down to the Hoover pet hair model and this Bissell. After pushing both models around the store for a few minutes, I quickly decided the Hoover model seemed bulky and I didn't like the way it turned. So I bought the Bissell, and boy, am I ever hooked!
I am not good at putting anything mechanical together, but this took me all of five minutes to assemble. Really. After pausing to pat myself on the back, I set about tackling the family room---the one room our dog truly owns. I had thought my old Hoover was picking up dirt but boy, was I ever wrong! This Bissell set to work quickly and I soon found the dirt chamber filled (there is something to be said for seeing all that dirt and hair in that container. What a sense of satisfaction!# Anyway, it was amazing how much this thing picked up. I gradually saw my once-white carpet restored to its old color, one that I hadn't seen in years. I obsessively vacuumed this room for a couple of hours today. Just when I thought I was done, I'd go over it one more time and the Bissell still grabbed more dirt. Unbelievable!
I finally tried it on my hardwood floors,and it worked liked a charm. I do like the no-rollers-movement for these floors. After finally finishing downstairs, I took it upstairs and hit the bedrooms. Again, it was a sight to behold. And what was really cool was after I'd finished and I walked on these freshly-vacummed carpets, they felt kinda new. It was incredible.
My only complaint, and this is specific to our house, is the dirt container doesn't hold a great deal. I think once I have used the Bissell regularly and it's not faced w/ the overwhelming amount of garbage it had to contend with on its first use, it won't be quite as bad. Honestly, I really do think I emptied and cleaned the machine about 50 times today before I finished the house #the stairs will wait for another day. I am tired).
So. all in all I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this Bissell to anyone, but especially those with pet hair issues. You really will be shocked at what it can do

Better than my old Dysan

| I have had a Dysan for a few years now. I also have 7 cats (don't ask). I got rid of my old carpeting a year and a half ago and put down mostly tile but I have carpeting in my bedroom and the living room. The Dysan was just not picking up the cat hair even though I'd had it cleaned and serviced 2 times this past year. So I researched some vacuums and read the reviews here and decided to try this one. I got it last week and immediately tried putting it together. I had a little trouble with the hose connections - getting them into place tightly. I called their hotline and someone answered right away. He was very helpful. I was doing it correctly, just not applying enough strength. I am not a weakling but it required a lot of pushing to get the hose connected on both ends. It may have just been my particular unit since I didn't see anyone else mention it. I had just vacuumed on Sunday and this was Wednesday. Once I got it together, I vacuumed right away. I filled up the dirt canister 3 times! In each room! My carpets look great now. I vacuumed again yesterday and more came up. So far I am very pleased with the vacuum. I am giving it 5 stars. I am not deducting for the problem I had putting it together because the Bissell Hotline was very helpful and pleasant. They exhibit a great "customer first" attitude. |

I have had a Oreck for the last eight years, but the warranty is up, and I go through A LOT of belts.. Its not made for my birds, dogs and cats I believe. This vacuum was set up in less then 15 minutes and I love the way it runs, and picks up my dog hair with ease! The brush function picks up hair that is hard to pick up and it also works in my tiled kitchen great- I am so happy I purchased this, and can't believe I was going to pay more money for another popular pet hair vacuum twice the price!

| I purchased the Bissel 89Q9 about a month ago . I really like this machine and would recommend it to anyone. It is handy for all my sweeper needs. It is especially nice to be able rinse the filter and not have to replace it. The only filter you have to replace is the HEPA filter on the back of the machine. As for the suction, I do not think I could be more pleased with it !I purchased this from Amazon.com and have always been happy with their service and shipping. |

| We recieved the vacuum in less than two days after ordering which was awesome, the vacuum itself seems to be performing quite well. It handles fairly easily and I would recommend it to people who have tile and hardwood floors. I do not have wall to wall carpet so I can't speak to it's usage on that, but the lift off canister was great on the stairs, all the way to the upper hallway. So far it's been a great product. |

| I love this vacuum. I used to have a Rainbow vacuum cause that is what my mother used and it was known to be good for people with allergies. Not so! You would not believe how much junk came out of my carpet the first time I used this Bissell! It was disgusting, yet satisfying to know all of it was coming up! It has so much power and suction- and picks up all the dirt and imbedded hair in our carpet. The filters are super easy to clean. Just wash off the excess dirt and let dry before putting it back in. I am very pleased with this vacuum. It is so much better than hauling around a container with water and a hose attached to it! Thank God for upright vacuums! This one only weighs 22 lbs. so it is super easy to carry around. I bought this for $150, so the price was right. I can't imagine spending over $400 on a Dyson, how rediculous! Now I can vacuum with ease and know that my carpet really is clean! |

I purchased this vacuum after my Eureka Boss 4D had broken down. Overall, this is a great good vacuum. It is very light-weight (I'm not sure how someone could say it was heavy!) and easy to handle. The settings are easy and cleaning the dust bin couldn't be any simpler. The detachable canister is just too awesome. Ours didn't come with the shoulder strap which would make it even better.
The power paw attachment works phenomenal. I have two large breed, shedding dogs so this is important to us. The power paw cleaned the pet beds, stairs and furniture better than any other I have used in the past. The other attachments also work well.
Overall, this is really a great vacuum. I do think for general vacuuming my Eureka (much to my surprise) has been the best at picking up dog hair and dirt. However, this bissell comes in extremely close. So I would recommend this to anyone. |

| My last vacuum was a Dyson that was supposed to be good for pet hair. This is much better and so much less expensive. I love the light, lift-off canister and the seperate brush vacuum head for furniture. It is wonderfully easy to use. I can't stop bragging about it. |

| We just built our new home and I have 2 Corgi dogs that shed as much as a Draft horse. We live in the country and my husband works construction....needless to say I needed a good vacuum. After reading the reviews I decided to register for the sweeper for my bridal shower. THIS SWEEPER IS AMAZING! Never have I been able to sweep up pet hair before like this sweeper does. I would highly recommend this sweeper to anyone and the lift off canister is great as well for easy portability!! |

OK, I admit that I've only had this vacuum for a couple of days, but I cannot believe what a great job it does! I had a Dirt Devil that was probably about five or six years old die on me. I had always thought that it worked well, did a good job. About 10 months ago, I got a dog, a Golden Retriever. If you've got a long haired dog, you know there's a lot of hair to clean up. Well, I thought my old Dirt Devil was doing a great job so I stayed with it until it died. Looking at the pet specific models on Amazon, this model caught my eye. The positive reviews all described what I was looking for. The couple of negative reviews didn't bother me much, either.
When it arrived, I unpacked everything, snapped-in what needed to be snapped-in and tightened a couple of screws. That took all of about five minutes. I vacuumed my living room and was impressed with the power. With the brush enabled, this thing powers itself forward. After a few minutes, the bin was full. I had collected enough hair to make another dog. It was really incredible. I used the pet brush attachment on my dog's bed and collected another small animal.
I haven't used the canister detachment yet, I'll use that to clean the car. I fully expect that it will do a fantastic job.
So take it with a grain of salt - I've only had it a short while - but I highly recommend this vacuum. It's strong, it does a great job and it's inexpensive (comparatively). As for the couple of negative reviews, I've had none of those problems. Maybe they were written by Hoover employees? :-) |

| Love, love, LOVE, this cleaner! It was very easy to assemble. We have two long-haired cats and the first time we used it, we vacuumed up a full cup of cat hair and dust that my Oreck had left behind. It's easy to clean----just dump the cup. We will be careful to make sure that the filters are clean. It is rather heavy, but it glides easily over the carpet. Well worth the $. Amazon had the lowest price and free shipping. |

| I have a long haired Dachshund who sheds like crazy! I already had a vacuum and it seemed like my carpet was getting worse and worse. I bought this and could not believe the amount of pet hair and dirt it picked up from both the carpet and hardwood floors! The Carpet honestly looks Brand spanking new again! The attachments worked great on the stairs. My only regret is that I didn't buy this sooner. The power cord is very long which is nice. The only negative is that canister fills up very quickly which requires it to be emptied fairly often. I would recommend this to anyone who has a pet that sheds constantly! |

My wife and I are very happy with and impressed by this vacuum.
Terrific suction, easy to empty, and the lift off feature is very useful when dusting blinds and the tops of tall furniture.
Prior to getting this one, we purchased a $300 machine by another maker. It did not work. This much less expensive Bissell works great. A real bargain as far as I am concerned.

I bought this vacuum after my old Bissell died. So far I have been pretty impressed with it. The canister lift off feature is great for cleaning stairs or vacuuming your car. I was a little skeptical about the pet hair turbo attachment but it actually worked very well. I have two long haired cats (Maine Coons, so there's a lot of fur!) and the turbo brush attachment got up pet fur from places I had just vacuumed with my previous machine! It is a bagless canister, and if you've ever had a vacuum like that you know it can get messy. It doesn't seem any worse than any other bagless I've had though. As long as you empty them out before getting too full its not a big deal.
Another feature that I really like is that you can turn the brushes off with a separate switch; there is a power switch and a brush switch. It is nice to be able to turn off brushes if you are trying to pick up debris on a bare floor (cat litter) and if you are using the wand attachments.
I gave the vacuum 4 stars because of two things I'm a little disappointed about. First, the power cord seems a little short; it doesn't seem like I can cover the same amount of area as I could with my old vacuum. Second, the hose for using the attachments is a little short, but that is almost offset by being able to carry the canister around. Neither of these things would keep me from buying the vacuum again though. |

| Bottom line: This vacuum has excellent suction and picks up the dirt and hair. It is heavy. Once you get the hang of the bagless thing, it isn't as messy as another reviewer noted. This machine is rather loud; however, I am grateful that it actually works. I have a golden retriever and a lab; hair is just a part of our life. The attachments seem to have more suction when directly attached to the hose (vs. the extension). This vacuum replaced my Miele (if you can believe that) and is frankly, doing a better job w/ the hair. I've only had the vacuum for a short time, but I am so grateful to have something that works that didn't break the bank. |

We went out and bought a few essentials and passed through the vacuum section. I figured our old one is 7 or so years old, maybe its time for a new one. After comparing the stock available which ranged from 70.00-400.00+, we agreed on this one.
I was not optimistic about the "turbo brush attatchment" deal for stairs, but was pleasently surprised with the brushes. They actually have a bit of horsepower to them and scrubbed the stairs without a problem. We had just vacuumed two days prior and this bad boy sucked up a decent amount of debris from what I thought was "clean" carpet.
The brush shut off button is a nice feature for bare floors, and if I remember correctly the brushes shut off when the base is in an a fully upright position which is nice.
The only complaints so far are.......It weighs quite a bit in my opinion. Sure u can detach the canister and use it on the stairs, but lugging the entire thing upstairs to clean your other rooms can be a chore. Also the filter cup seems very small, but its very easy to empty.
Overall, I am happy with it......We will see how long it keeps going.

We bought this to replace our Hoover Windtunnel, which I had liked, but had burnt out on us and was quite heavy to lift. The pros of the Bissell in comparison to the Hoovers that I have owned in the past: while not light, it is significantly lighter than Windtunnel models I've used. The cup and "upper cyclonic" chamber are plastic, so easy to wash of dust, dry, and replace. The on board tools are sufficient for most needs: crevicer, pet hair hand held device for furniture/stairs, a brush/duster attachment. I find the extension wand periodically unlocks itself while I use it, causing it to slowly collapse until I reset it. It's a bit of a pain. The cord is long enough for me to do two rooms easily without needing to move the plug. The Bissell doesn't edge as well as my old Hoovers, which really cleaned right to the edge of the machine, but the Bissell does a decent job. It has an onboard light, which is useful. The noise is perhaps a bit less than my old Hoover, which was loud. I don't think the machine is unusually noisy, but it is not quiet.
A few folks have commented on the bagless cup/ease of cleanup: we have a dog who sheds a lot, to the point where we vacuum several times a week (hence the burned out old Hoover). On all of the bagless vacuums I've had, you really do need to empty the cup when it is less than half full; after each room is better. It improves suction, makes the filters clog less, and prevents dirt from falling down when the cup is removed. If that isn't you're cup of tea, buy a bagged vacuum. It will be less hassle. I like the bagless because I don't have to run out for bags constantly, but I'm willing to clean the cup out more often than most.
Overall, the vacuum does the job advertised- picking up pet hair- and it didn't cost a fortune. |

I purchased this machine after the switch on my Hoover finally died beyond what I could repair. The Hoover use to be a good machine, until it started spitting stuff out the back, requiring my wearing shoes to vacuum my home. I read reviews on this machine, compared the other pet vacuums, and chose this one based on the sale price and decent reviews.
I have a lab, three cats, and two, young children. I had just vacuumed with my Hoover the day I ordered this. It was here the next day. Thank you Amazon! The machine wasn't as quiet as my Hoover was in the beginning, but boy did it clean. Even though I had just vacuumed my living room, this machine picked up so much fine dust that I started to feel a little sick. I couldn't believe how much my other vacuum left behind. It wasn't even four years old!
I love this vacuum. It cleans wonderfully. Now that I've seen just what it can dig out of my carpet, I wonder how I ever trusted my baby to play on the floor. It has done such an amazing job. It doesn't even scare my cats! But it does run louder than I'd like, which is why I can't give it five stars. If I could have a machine that picks up as well as this one, that was as quiet as my Hoover was when I first got it, I'd be very happy.
The removable canister and long cord allowed me to finally clean my stairs without narrowly escaping sprains.
It even looks nice. I store it, of course, but if I don't get it put away before someone comes over, it doesn't bother me.
I highly recommend this vacuum, whether you have pets or not.

Pros: Its great for the stairs and for carpeted areas. I love that its bagless and so easy to clean. I'm able to take everything a part easily and clean off all the pet hair and dirt. The cord is long enough where I don't have to replug it too often.
Cons: I went from a canister vacuum so the hardest thing I have with it is that its terrible for getting under anything and its too high to go under any of my tables or the kitchen cabinets so I'm always having to use the attachments which is a real pain. Also, the cord is difficult to manage because its so long I'm always having to hold it and carry it otherwise the vacuum runs it over constantly. Its also very very hot. The hot air blows on your legs constantly when you're vacuuming. And the hot air also blows the dog hair away on the wooden floor so I'm sometimes trying to catch the hair as the vacuum blows it away.
All in all I really do like it because of the easy clean function which also shows me that its really doing a good job because I can see the canister full of dog hair and dirt. I just wish that it was better on hardwood. |

I clean the one in the back with my shop vac, then I don't have to go out and buy an expensive filter all the time. |

| Good machine, but the attachments are over-designed. For example, the brush accessory is an overly-complex and bulky piece that you must rotate to align the suction with the brush or brushless end of the device. This also makes it fairly bulky, which means it cannot be used to clean baseboards behind furniture unless you allow 4-5 inches standoff from the wall. Even then it misaligns easily when bumped against the furniture (common because of its size), short-circuiting the suction and requiring that you again align the piece before continuing. Its short (3/8") bristle length also makes it useless for common tasks such as cleaning blinds. Finally, Bissell uses a non-standard accessory tube size, which means that common, aftermarket parts will not fit. In other words, you will a second machine (of a different manufacturer) if you will have many tasks that require the brush accessory. |

This vacuum weighs a ton. I have nothing but hardwoods in my house (no carpet or rugs anywhere), yet pushing it around is like an hour-long gym workout. Ever use a lawn mower that isn't self-propelled? This vacuum is worse.
The pet hair pickup contraption works wery well. The vacumm picks up everything. It was very easy to assemble. Even the filters look easy to change. But, it is so very heavy.
My vacuum did not come with the hardwood floor attachment, and the head of the vacuum is far too big to get into tight spots or under furniture. I will be ordering the hardwood floor attachment for this raeson.
Would I but this vacuum again? Probably not without trying it out first. It's really, really heavy and cumbersome. |

| This vacuum is way too heavy and hard to manuveur in tighter spots. The brush function is OK on carpets, but the regular vacuum isn't too good on hardwood. And the pet brush doesn't work worth a hoot on upholstery- no suction and it's rough on fabric. The only good feature is that it's bagless. I would not buy again. |

I got this vacuum thinking the lift-off feature would be perfect for me. I have 2 shedding dogs and a combo of bare floors, large rugs, and carpet. First of all, the lift off feature is more of a hassle than I imagined. You Have to use both hands - one to keep the vacuum from tipping over and one to vacuum. Which obviously doesn't leave a hand free if you need to quickly move something out of the way or hold something in place. If I take my hand off the vacuum for 2 seconds, it tips over and usually sends a small cloud of dust flying.
That wouldn't be such a big deal if the vacuum actually sucked up adequately. For instance, I used the hose and carpet attachment to vacuum the stairs. There was a considerable amount of dust and dog hair in the collection cup. But after I finished, the carpet just didn't look clean. I ran my hand over the first step and got a small wad of dog hair. I went back over each step, just combing the carpet with my flat hand, and got nearly enough dog hair to fill the collection cup back up.
I'm anal about keeping all the filters clean, so I know that's not the problem.
This vacuum is very disappointing. I guess I'll go back to using my older no-frills Bissell. |

| I bought this vacuum March 10th and I'm already having to replace the belt. I use it about 3 times a week to thoroughly clean (corners, walls edges, behind dog kennels) and I do an everyday quick vac. After which I empty the bin (and wash it then allow it to air dry, I clean the brush, check the filters (replace if needed). In other words I take extra special care of it. I hope it's just a one time thing... a fault in manufacturing or something of that nature. I'd hate to think I'll have to replace the belt every month... along with the filters that clog up very quickly and the fact that the tubes get clogged easily if you have pets. (and it's a pain to remove a clog due to the design.) It does have great suction, and the extra tools are nice. They do help, I'm just concerned with manufacturing. If I'm having so many problems with this vac just a little over a month... is it even going to make it a year? |

I purchased a version of this from a local box store (their's is red). I purchased it today and am returning it! I was really taken with the idea of the attachment with a brush for steps, etc., but I did one set of steps (5 steps) and when I attached it to try it on an area rug it wasn't getting enough suction to even spin the brush. Maybe mine is defective, but I won't be exchanging it to find out....I'll just move onto my next choice.

* The light...LOL..my old Dyson didn't have one..somehow it made me feel like I got under furniture better!
*Vacuum flattens to go under furniture, bed, etc.
* The bottom of the vacuum is a rubbery material unlike my Dyson if I nick my baseboard there'd be no marks.
* The idea of vacuuming my dog with this! He on the other hand didn't like this idea....didn't even try it though.

* Attachments not working properly, which is the deal breaker for me (brush not spinning in attachment).

i bought this vacuum based on some reviews (which were mixed) on another site. i talked myself into this vacuum because it seemed to have everything i would ever need in a vacuum. i have NEVER been more wrong about a purchase. i would give this vacuum negative stars if it were possible.
first, let's start with the weight. i am a 39 year old male who is in good shape. this vacuum is a struggle for me to carry up the stairs- i have no idea how an older or less strong person could handle carrying it up stairs, unless they took it apart (the "lift off" feature) carried the lift off up, and then went back for the base/ chassis part, which would necessitate two trips up the stairs. completely ridiculous.
next, let's talk about the marvel of "bagless". this, in my opinion, is one of the greatest scams ever perpetuated upon the consumer. we are led to believe that bagless is better, and (ha!) cleaner. NOTHING could be further from the truth. you have to practically carry this thing outside to dump the cup (again, meaning you've got to carry it outside) because when the cup is removed, inevitably dust and dirt fall out of the unit and onto the carpet you've just cleaned. pointless. THEN, you're not done with emptying just the cup. if you don't empty the filter chamber above it every single time, the dust/ dirt/ pet hair will quickly build up in the filter area, meaning you've got an even BIGGER mess to clean up and spill on your floor. thus, you pretty much have to carry it outside every single time.
also- if you don't empty the cup every time, you will quickly fill it up with dog hair, and then clog your unit the next time you start it.
so- to review so far--- it is insanely heavy to carry up a flight of stairs, and you have to make sure the cup is empty before you use it every time and dump it after you're done. every time. this should already talk you out of it, but i'll continue.
IF you have the misfortune of letting your unit clog in the filter chamber (which is very, very easy to do), when you turn the unit back on, a cloud of debris and dust will be blown out of the back filter of the machine. this has happened to me twice. i can definitively say that this is the messiest, dirtiest, heaviest, and worst vacuum that i have ever had the displeasure of purchasing. if i hadn't thrown the box away, this piece of junk would have gone right back to the store the next day. if this review hasn't dissuaded you from buying this vacuum and you decide to buy it anyway, i promise you that you will know first hand the things that i have said here within weeks of having your vacuum.
i have just attempted to vacuum my house (again), and once again i experienced the horrible cloud of dust and crap coughed out through the back filter. i decided that before i go dust my living room to get rid of the mess, that i was going to sit down and tell the world what a horrible piece of equipment this is and try to save someone else from throwing their money away. |

| I spent two days rewiewing vacuums and decided on this one. I was so thrilled to get it and couldn't wait to get it out of the box. I was like a kid at Christmas. I had visions of dancing while vacuuming, that's how happy I was going to be to use it. This vacuum was the answer to my prayers....NOT! The cord is so annoying. You have to hold it the entire time you are vacuuming. The pet attachment that fits on the front keeps falling off even though it clicked into place. That pet attachment is awful because it keeps getting clogged and stops spinning. I spent 30 seconds using it and then 90 seconds pulling the hair out of it. I sure don't want to spend three times as long vacuuming. The lift off part is useless because it tips over. You can't set it down and attempt to vacuum without the unit falling over and knocking into your wall. When using the lift off only, it blows hot air directly at you. I used it on my steps and was sweating from the amount of heat that thing was blowing at me. The whole reason I bought this vacuum was the lift off part and it's worthless. As for the hose, it reminds me of a slinky. I inserted the telescoping wand into the hose to vacuum my bare floor. Well, the darn hose catches and pinches my skin continually. It hurts! I hate this vacuum and I've never hated a vacuum before. I am returning it to the store today. I can't stress enough how I wanted to love this and I even did. But that was before I turned it on. |

| Never before I have bought trash as this vacum cleaner, Bissell multi-cyclonic the first vacum cleaner we bought in Costco and it didnt work at once at all. The second vacum cleaner Bissell we bought in Best Buy with the guarantee on one year, in two months something burned inside and we waited three weeks just so the repair people could change it with a new one. The new vacum cleaner Bissell worked two months and it broke again! I am supposed to bring it into the guarantee center again, but I am not even sure they will get us a new one, because they said their guarantee works only one time. I am not recommending to anyonre to get this vacum cleaner-it costs a lot, but this is definitely trash |

The Bissell 89Q9 Lift-Off MultiCyclonic Pet Baglass vacuum cleaner's spec sheet boasts an impressive list of features, but the actual product implementation really bites the big one. Hopefully it will bite the dust before more people are fooled into purchasing it.
Immediately after unpacking the vacuum and perusing the assembly instructions I knew there would be trouble. The only major assembly step is attaching the handle to the top of the vac, which requires a Philips screwdriver (that by itself is a minor quibble). The instructions state to slide the handle into place, and if there is a gap where the parts meet just "keep pushing". The handle does not fit well, period. Don't bother trying for a flush fit, just install the two screws and be done with it.
Like most upright vacuums today, the Bissell uses a "slinky"-style tube to connect the vac motor to the floor piece. As usual, to clean upholstery, blinds, ceilings, etc., just unplug the hose from the floorpiece and connect the appropriate extension wand and accessory. However, there are several problems with the Bissell design. First, the hole where the tube plugs in to the floor piece is way too tight. Inserting the hose is not a problem, but removing it took more strength than I ever imagined could be necessary; there is no way my wife would be able (or perhaps not willing) to remove this tube to use the extension wand. Second, the other end of the hose plugs into a "twist and snap" connection on the motor unit. The fit is also very tight, but this end of the hose should rarely need to be unplugged, so by itself that's no biggie. The problem is, the hose juts out perpendicular to the motor body and needs to be bent sharply up and to the side to route the hose down to the floor piece. Technically I suppose this connection works okay but the way it looks just screams of sloppy design work, and I worry the hose is more likely to be snagged and damaged.
One of the more unique features of this upright model is its ability to detach the vacuum body from the upright frame, and use it as a canister-style cleaner. In theory this makes it easier to clean stairs and car interiors, for example. In reality, the so-called detachable "cannister" lacks some key features that make a real cannister vacuum useful. First and foremost, a cannister vac must be able to lie down horizontally and remain stable when in use. This Bissell pseudo-cannister is designed to stand upright ONLY which makes in woefully unstable on stairs. If you try to lay the cannister on its side, it will still wobble and roll, dangerously -- all the while the motor's hot outlet air is blowing directly on you. Removing the cannister from the upright frame is easy, but I found that putting it back was difficult -- actually impossible until I removed the extension wand from its parking spot on the frame. (Doesn't anybody at Bissell R&D test this stuff?)
Another failure of this poorly-executed product design is the "extension wand". Almost all vacuums, whether upright or cannister, provide several extension wand tubes, which are tapered at one end, that can be connected together to reach high spots or behind or under furniture. Bissell decided to be clever and discarded the tried-and-true multi-piece tapered tube design, replacing it with a single integrated "tube within a tube" and twist-lock ferruled nut. This type of collapsible pole design is great for use in paint-roller extension poles, but it's wasteful and inefficient for use in a relatively short vacuum cleaner tube. Bissell's extension wand/tube is heavier than conventional tapered extension tubes and doesn't extend as far. And it just seems like a much more complicated and expensive solution to a problem that's been resolved for decades.
Finally, perhaps the most infuriating aspect of the 89Q9 is its use of a non-standard hose/tube size! None of my other generic accessories (nook-n-cranny wand, drapery & upholstery nozzle, shutter & blind brush, etc.) will fit. If you're used to swapping accessories among multiple vacuums, forget it. If you have a bunch of accessories from previous vacuum cleaners which you'd like to keep using, forget it. Or if you want to buy third-party accessories, forget it. They will not work with this Bissell. There are two or three standard sizes used throughout the world on different makes and models of vacuum cleaners; why Bissell decided to utilize this non-standard size is beyond me. (Also, relative to every other vacuum cleaner in the world, the "wide end" of the extension tube is on the wrong end. Why? Why?)
In closing, I'm very glad that I bought this vacuum... from Costco rather than Amazon, so I can RETURN the darned thing easily!

| I have had this vacuum for over a year now and I keep thinking I'm doing something wrong that doesn't make it work right. I constantly have to take the hair out of the brushes and clean all the filters. I have to go over and over the same areas to pick up dirt and hair. Today was the day I finally gave up on it. Works like crap! I hate it! Don't buy it. |
