We have the crane and we have this cartridge, we have used well water and filtered water from the Walmart machine. We are happy with both. This has gotten a LOT of use, our son who is 6 and is terminally ill and our daughter who is 4 and had her second surgery, it has ran SO much.
We are in need of a second filter now so if anyone that was unhappy with theres and has any extras check us out [...] and send them our way, we will use them.
THANKS! |

| The water in my area is horrible and every time I use a humidifier it would build up and die. This filter works. It save me the time and hassle of buying a new humidifier because the hard water in my area. Great for my babies penguin humidifier. |
If you have hard water, you probably want this filter.

| We have hard water and all humidifiers that I have used in the past have left a chunky or dusty white coating around the mist dispenser area of the humidifier. I did not have that problem with the Crane and I believe it is because I bought the filter with the device and used it right away. |
Does the job

My humidifier is a penguin-shaped one. I had no problem whatsoever installing the filter. The only thing that you want to keep in mind is that you have to give it 15 minutes to pre-soak, so that the water from the tank starts to get through. I've been using it for about a month now, no white dust whatsoever.
The only concern of mine is whether you win anything with this filter pricewise: it costs around $8 and serves for about two months. So, you should see for yourself whether it is cheaper than buying filtered water to fill the humidifier up. Ultimately, it boils down to how intense you use your humidifier. |
Great humidifier for the price

| I bought this for my wife to use at her "crash pad". She is a flight attendant based out of New York and was experiencing problems with dry winters in New York, especially coming from Baton Rouge. She told me that it was very simple to set up in her bedroom and that it is very quiet in operation. It worked as intended and she now doesn't wake up with sinus headaches. We would strongly recommend it. |

| It smelled like weird plastic for a whole day, but now its stopped. It seems like it just had to run water through it ^^ I think its decreased the strange smell coming from the humidifier. If you follow the instructions, I dont think there would be much of a problem. |

| I used Homes humidifier, but we throw to garbage box after use a few weeks. But this one is very good, especially small size room like our apartment. So far we do not have problem except it is very sensitive to put the sensor in right position, otherwise bother the flushing. |
it does works, but only last 30-40 fillings

| I've read of others whose Crane humidifiers stopped working after a few months. We have hard water so I was afraid of our humidifier failing as well. So far, after 3 months of use with the filter cartridge, our humidifier is still working.... |

I bought this product after going through all the reviews. The product does what it says...I have seen considerable reduction in the white dust accumulation in the room and well as mineral deposits on the operating surface of the humidifier. I have used it only for 1 month now...and the filter is still working...
Cons:- Only problem i found was that the filter doesnt fit the humidifier perfectly. [To the first time users - this filter replaces the existing cap of the humidifier tank].
I own the Crane Penguin humidifier and the tank sits on the base perfectly with the original cap. But with the filter (even after securing it tightly to the tank) the tank doesn't sit perfectly on to its base...it remains a bit raised (due to the imperfection of the filter) and causes the water vapors to leak thru the sides...not a big deal though. And I am not sure whether it's a problem with the particular piece i bought. |

| I bought the Crane Penguin humidifier about 2 months ago. The filter arrived about a week later. My experience applies to people using HARD TAP WATER. So far I've found that, although the filter helped with keeping the humidifier a bit cleaner (I clean it once a week with diluted bleach for the tank and vinegar for the base), it only seemed to work to reduce white dust (from hard water minerals) for just over a month, using the humidifier at a low or medium setting. I'm considering using distilled water instead - it might work out cheaper than having to replace the filter every couple of months. I would definitely advise to keep the original cap for the tank and try the humidifier with and without filter. |
Flawed, but good idea

| The humidifier is cute, but either the filter or the main mechanism may be flawed. Some other people mention this in their reviews. After a month, we've had to whack and jiggle it to get the light to turn green even though there is enough water and the float is working. |

| I have the penguin humidifier, which works great, but this filter does not fit quite right. It pushes the penguin up off of the base a small amount which makes the 'steam' come out of the bottom as well as the penguins mouth. It also makes the unit a bit noiser. Neither of these things really bother me and I would/will buy the filter again when needed. |
Good with some models

I bought this to use with the Duck Humidifier and it worked perfectly. However I got the Penguin a week later and I think the spring release (to trickle more water) does not work with the Penguin... I think it's not screwing on properly (in spite of trying a thousand times to do so). So if you got the penguin like a lot of folks, be aware this might be a waste of money.
Update: I contacted Crane and the service rep said this was probably a defect with the Penguin Humidifier, and to fill out the warranty card and send the severed power cord (gruesome!) to them and they will mail a replacement. |
Not sure if it's doing anything.

My advice is to keep the original cap in case you decide this filter is not for you.
It managed to stop mineral deposits from building up further on the side of the resevoir, but the water gained a musty smell after a 15 gallons/three weeks of use. I sanitize with chlorinated water bi-weekly.
It was especially apparent in warm heated rooms. The risk of bacterial growth outweighs the benefits of the filter for me and I do not recommend this product.

I got a lot of these Crane humidifiers. We have a lot of minerals in our water, so I got these filters. Some of the humidifiers made too much noise to use in a bedroom. They are extremely cute, though, and inexpensive.
I got white dust everywhere even with the filters, even after also using water run through another charcoal filter. If you are serious about these humidifiers, you need to use distilled water. Then you won't need these filters.
About the white dust, I mean literally everywhere, inside the DVD player for instance. I have quit using all of the Crane humidifiers and put them away. I was really sad about this, because they are so cute. They did raise the humidity about 10%. We live in the desert, it is very dry in the winter. |

| I tried the humidifier with and without the filter and cannot tell any difference in dust output. I have these air purifiers in the house and the blades are just as coated in thick white dust after 2 days with the filter than without it. I suppose it'll keep bacteria from building up and deposits from forming (I hope so at least). But the dust is just everywhere! Not too impressed with it. |

| I have the Crane Penguin humidifier and this filter did not fit. It screwed into the tank just fine, but when I put the tank on the base, it wouldn't sit flush. I don't know why, I examined it really closely, but it just doesn't fit. Maybe the filter I got is flawed. I'll be returning it for a refund. |

| I live in the desert and bought the filter to help with the hard water. However, when I use the filter and put the water tank on the base, it no longer sits flush. It comes up just a little bit, so steam comes out the back, and it's sort of close to the on/off switch. It didn't seem like a good idea to allow that to continue, so I will be returning the filter for a refund. |

| This filter does not fit into the penguin Crane humidifier. The filter rubs up against one of the sides and therefore it cannot be turned in any further. This leads to the penguin being lobsided when turned over to be placed in the water basin. Emailed Crane, but of course, no response. |

| We have hard water in our house, so I thought this filter would help, but, in fact, it made things worse... every time we added water to the humidifier, we noticed that the plastic was orange and slimy. Now that we've removed the filter, we don't have this problem. Maybe it works better with soft water. |
