Humidifier that actually humidifies

Review Date: March 6, 2007
Reviewer: Minoesje,
I have gone through quite a few humidifiers. I had one like this before, after a few years it gave in because I never cleaned it (shame on me). Then I tried a few ultrasonic (ultraexpensive) humidifiers, which really hardly bring the humidity up (I have a hygrometer). So I decided to buy this one again, and am as happy as with the first one. If you want your room to increase in humidity, forget about those ultrasonics and go for this one. Cheap and good.
Great humidifier for its price

Reviewer: Greenblat,
I have been looking for a warm air purifier for some time (prefer warm air for safety reasons (avoids mould and airborn particles)). Warm air models range to well over $100. I decided to try this unit because it is cheap and has a large water tank.

I would highly recommend this unit for the price. It has two steam settings (high and low). It has an aromatherapy dispenser. It is easy to refill. It works really well actually.

Some previous posts have indicated that the unit may not last for years and years because of its construction. True, it is not built like a tank. However, for its price I think you would struggle to do better.

same product as honeywell humidifier hwm-910 but $5 cheaper

We have tried all kinds of humidifiers - ultrasonic, blowers, etc. Tried higher priced honeywell model (Honeywell HWM450 Quick Steam Warm Moisture Humidifier) - which works fine, but is noisy steamy noise.

We originally bought the Honeywell HWM-910 through Target around 2003 and liked it so much and went and bought two more. My wife threw out several of them when I didn't clean out the heating unit (even though I could of cleaned it and kept on using it. I had left them sitting in garage over the summer and looked like trash to her). Next spring, I'll clean them out and put them in nice storage box!

Found having two of them in the bedroom at low setting was perfect - got the volume of humidity and didn't have to refill them at night...lasts I think at least 12 hours at the low setting.

I have been spending quite a bit of time researching the different humidifiers available.

The Duracraft DWM250 is the same product as the Honeywell HWM-910 but is about $5 less and through Amazon comes with free shipping if you buy over $25. The cheapest Honeywell HWM-910 is $36.50 (with shipping factored in) when you buy from Amazon affiliate. Given it's the same product and manufacturer and just a different marketing brand logo of Duracraft instead of Honeywell, I choose the Duracraft model (saving over $11.50 per order). I just bought 3 more of the Duracraft humidifiers and I expect them to last for years. We live in semi-arid environment and in the winter the humidity is very low.

We'll plan on turning down the heat to rest of the house and use these to keep us warm and comfortable humidity level while sleeping.

I checked wikipedia and it talks about Honeywell brand and Kaz company and Duracraft which are just marketing brands of the same product.

If anyone finds a better combination of value and performance, I'll consider another brand/model in future, but for now I think the time I spent into researching is paying off. Just wanted to stop getting products that go to the landfill much too quickly and get some value.

You can always buy extra water tanks and pre-fill them and leave them in room if you want to replace the water at night but not bother to refill (if you use only one humidifier at high setting). It is $15.99 ($19.94 with shipping, so probably makes sense to just buy another humidifier at less than $25)

[...]

Notice that this water tank can be used with both Duracraft DWM250 and Honeywell HWM-910.
BEST VALUE ON THE MARKET IN PORTABLE HUMIDIFICATION

After owning more than a dozen different types of hunmidifiers over the years this is the one I keep coming back to. It offers low purchase price and even lower maintenance cost than just about any other type you can find. Use of filtered water (like Brita, etc) will make the unit's heating element last much longer as minerals in water tend to collect on the element that does the heating thus causing the element to get coated and insulated. Using the filtered water reduces available minerals in water so unit works better for longer time. Regular cleaning of the element with vinegar will make it last even longer if you're so inclined. But for the low purchase price (less than some filter wicks on other types of humidifiers) one can afford to replace the unit more often. When I tried the type with wicks I had to replace wicks several times a winter at a cost of around $15.00 each which is more tha this unit costs. And this one will easily last longer than one winter if filtered water is used. So all in all this is a bargain and it works well.
A little marvel of engineering

Review Date: November 1, 2009
Reviewer: David M. Pierce,
This is not your mother's humidifier. Of course if, as a child, you enjoyed melting wax crayons in a noisy jet of superheated steam, you will be disappointed.

The air is dry here, and my wife and I would frequently awaken with dry, sore throats and sinus headaches. We decided to experiment with humidifying our bedroom. After researching the pros & cons of warm mist units vs cool mist units we decided on warm mist. We also factored in how much money we were willing to risk on this experiment (about twenty-five bucks).

I wish I could say that we have never had another sore throat or sinus headache since using this unit, but we are definitely more comfortable.

I am totally enamored of the thought and engineering that went into the creation of this inexpensive and helpful device. The only thing I am disappointed in is the listing of the unit as "2-1/2 Gallon". I think it is misleading. I think most consumers would assume that this refers to the reservoir capacity, which is actually 2-1/2 QUARTS (yes, I measured). All I can do is speculate on why this is labeled as it is. Nevertheless, on the "Low" setting it goes all night without needing refilling, with plenty left over. I haven't needed to run it all night on "High" so I can't offer any comments on run-time in that setting. If you fill the heating chamber tray before you set the reservoir in place, you can get more operating time out of the unit.

This unit is pretty quiet - the sound of a little water boiling, and an occasional burble as water from the reservoir recharges the heating chamber. We are completely satisfied with this unit.

Reviewer: William Cavanaugh,
I have used this particular humidifier in the past and have been very pleased. I tried a cool mist humidifier and wasn't satisfied with the results. They are way too noisy and do not really put enough moisture in the air. I bought 2 of the warm mist humidifiers and now use them to keep the humidity level up in my condo.

The down side is that you have to keep filling the canister, but that's only because it's so efficient at producing humidity. I have learned from owning these types of humidifiers that regular maintenance is a must. If you pour a little lime and calcium remover in the reservoir about once every 2 weeks and let it soak it's very easy to keep clean.
Nice humidifier

Reviewer: SWK Mom,
I just bought this humidifier and love it. It is very easy to fill and unlike other humidifiers it stands on its own when placed in fill position. Large opening for water fill. I have another warm mist humidifier and hole is much smaller. It doesn't hold a lot of water but it makes it easy to carry and position tank. It puts humidity into the air which is what I wanted. I have no complaints about the noise, just bubbling when the water fills.
Humidifier

I bought this to replace a Duracraft that lasted 5 or 6 years before it developed a slow leak at the plate that screwed onto the bottom. I read all the warm mist humidifier reviews and thought "none of them work any more." This one works just fine. I did not use any of the pads before so I don't use them now. I simply fill it each night, turn it to high, press the on switch and it runs until I turn it off in the morning. The coil stays cleaner if the unit is turned off before it runs out of water. I clean the unit every week or two.

Like other reviewers, I haven't had good luck with humidifiers. I've bought the mist type which leaves white dust all over the place and I've bought the ones with noisy fans. I'm a light sleeper and this one is super quiet except for the occasional gurgle but like others mentioned, it's kinda soothing. Also, the humidity output is really great. Another reviewer used the word "tropical" to mention how her bedroom felt after using this product and I'll agree. My humidity went from 39% to 50% by using this in my bedroom. Of course for the price and size of this unit, it may not make a huge difference for the entire house but it really works great for one room.

Not perfect

Review Date: February 18, 2010
Reviewer: Joe Z, Behind The Curve in Rock Hill
I've had two of these. It works well day in day out year after year. It's not perfect, however.

First to address some posted complaints. Daily water output is a perfectly valid way to rate a humidifier. That's how it's done. Get over it.

As for frequent refilling, it's in the bedroom and I fill it at night. There's plenty left in the tank in the morning. Running it 24/7 on HIGH uses two tanks full. The tank may seem small, but it's perfectly adequate. Besides, would you want to lug around a 2 gallon tank? Don't think so.

Problems with reliability may be due to the retailer dropping it, not a manufacturing defect. Mine both lasted years. The one I have now is three years old.

But it's not perfect. It makes a gurgling sound if the reservoir isn't cleaned. Scale builds up on the element and settles in the bowl. When it gurgles, it needs to be cleaned. You won't be able to get it perfectly clean, but you don't need to, so don't sweat it. Just get the particulate matter out.

The scale buildup on the element can't be cleaned. There are cheap, third-party filters available. Haven't tried them. Might help. The problem is, scale buildup makes the element less efficient. Which leads to problem #3 - operating cost.

I can't prove it because my electric bill varies a lot, but I think it adds $10-$20 a month. As the elements junks up, I think it gets worse. Think of it like leaving a stove burner on 24/7. Has to cost something.

Bottom line is that it works, is reliable, it's easy to clean - 5 stars.

We purchased this item considering the good price; and amazingly humidifier works very well, easy to operate and maintenance free. Humidifier can produce steam as good as they claim in the spec to cover around 700-1000 square feet. Overall It turn to be what we really expect from a warm humidifier. The only minor cons is to re-fill every 5-6 hours with high output setting

THIS Duracraft DWM250 2-1/2-Gallon Warm Mist Humidifier WORKS AS BETTER THAN MANY OTHERS I HAVE USED IN THE PAST. EASY TO REFILL AND STARTS TO HUMIDIFY WARM MOIST VAPORS IN 5 MINUTES. I HAVE SINCE PURCHASED 2 MORE. IT WILL GO THROUGH ITS CONTAINER OF WATER IN ABOUT 10 HOURS ON HIGH SETTING. ALSO HAS AUTO SHUT OFF WHEN EMPTY. I PURCHASED THESE AFTER MY DOCTOR ADVISED ME TOO FOR MY YOUNG DAUGHTER TO USE IN WINTER. I ALSO LOOKED AT HONEYWELL, BUT AFTER READING REVIEWS I DECIDED TO GET THIS ONE.

I purchased this for a small apartment (800 sq. feet). I was looking for a humidifier that was both inexpensive and effective. This is the one! The low setting lasts all night and the high for 6 hours. Best of all, the static electricity and general dryness of the air are gone. So far I have not had any problem with mildew but it nice to know that I can run the tank through the washer if needed. I definitely recommend it!

This model thankfully doesn't require any filter pads, and if you clean it every few weeks with a vinegar mix it will keep on chugging for years. I have the old 3 gallon one and love how well it still humidifies after all these years. The heating element on these hangs from the top (not sitting stupidly on the bottom roasting any sediments or mineral pads like some other models) and is quite robust. It is a shame that they 1. don't make the 3 gallon any more, and 2. try to make you think that this holds 2.5 gallons. It doesn't. But it is easier to fill being smaller in size, and the humidifier actually works without me having to worry that the darn thing will burn my house down (see my review about another Honeywell, if you want to know).

You do need to get a separate hygrometer as this only has a high and low setting, but it seems like most humidifiers have cheap and mostly inaccurate hygrometers anyway. Once I reached the level of humidity I wanted, the low setting appeared to maintain the humidity just fine.

Another season begins... 1/14:
Still going strong. Also still a little annoying that the tank probably only holds 1 gal. However, it is dependable, does put out a lot of moisture and I'm not worrying about the heating element burning up as seems to be a problem in other warm mist humidifiers. I think I will buy another one or two for the rest of the house, since Duracraft doesn't seem to be making bigger ones again. Still really love this design.
Pleased with my selection

I had this product for 11 years and I decided to get another one as the old one was getting a bit cosmetically unattractive. I am using the new unit and it is working like a champ. Please be aware that the unit is actually one gallon humidifier. However it is capable of humidifying 2 1/2 gallons a day if you fill the tank 2 or three times a day.
Well worth the price!

I purchased this humidifier back in Nov. and have been using it every night since. I make it a point to clean it by soaking in vinegar about every two weeks which is recommended in the cleaning instructions, and I have to say, very easy. It works great, and does well enough to keep our master bedroom about 3-4% higher in humidity than what it is before I turn it on. It is a very simple but effective unit that I would definitely purchase again.

Thank you to the seller for accommodating my request to send my humidifier right away. After reading the reviews, I had to get one for my 4 month old baby who has been sick with a cold and needed another humidifier, a more efficient one to help him get better and feel more comfortable. The humidifier is working like a charm. The humidity levels in the room have gone way up and it feels tropical-like. Anyone will be pleased with this product.

This product is working great for me. As stated in many of the other reviews, the heating element does require a good cleaning every week to 2 weeks for it to continue putting out a decent amount of steam. I have noticed that the amount of static electricity we had before has greatly diminished since we have started using the humidifier. All in all, you can't beat it for the price!

This humidifier works well and is a good value for the price. It has two settings to control the output of moisture entering your child's room. The water tank is easy to remove and fill. The entire unit is easy to disassemble for cleaning purposes, which are required about once a week. This unit has no messy filters to replace, just wipe it down with a little vinegar and you are done. I would recommend this humidifier to a friend.

This is a great product, live in a very dry area. Makes no noise, it's warm and barely noticeable. The only negative is that it's hard to tell if its on or not... you have to make sure it's lined up perfectly for it to work. The on light will be on whether or not the water tank is engaged. Still overall a really good product.

When you keep this humidifier on low you will still need to fill it about ever 12 hours. I don't find this to be a problem. It puts enough moisture in the air for a 1000 sq. ft. area that there is no static electricity. That was my goal. You can add scented oil in the small reservoir to add a nice fragrance to the house. Then you can always add vicks if you have a cold and set it next to your bed with a warm mist.
This humidifier is very easy to fill. I would definitely recommend this humidifier to friends.
Gets a Good Review for Price and Working Well, BUT it's NOT 2 1/2 Gallons

Reviewer: Citizen John, USA
This is as big as the unit I sought to replace for my office. I think the entire product that you see in the picture might displace 2 and 1/2 gallons, but there's no way the receptable can hold even one gallon.

Now I run the two identical units (except they have different names) right next to each other. They work better to kick out an exceptable rate of humidity together. So what at first looked like a cheap solution, a shortcut, turned out to be a long cut. I now have these two small humidifiers running together and the result now is good.

If I had to start over, I'd spend about 160 and get a big machine with a large receptable that could direct a visible spray of mist to humidify my office nicely. But these two do fine for me for now. I can't compain because still the price was so good.

I admit I like them because they're quiet.

For years I struggled with the cheaper "electrode type" warm mist humidifiers, and got more frustration than steam. But I didn't want to pay $100 for a humidifier. This is the perfect happy medium. Yes, the "2 1/2 gallons" is a bait-and-switch, but the unit will easily humidify a small room on low for nearly full day, and a larger room on high with a refilling or, at most, two. It's reliable, it's easy to clean, and the price is right. What more could you ask?

I have been searching for a good warm mist humidifier for a long time. I'd already purchased two before getting this one and I have to say I'm keeping this one! It doesn't emit too much mist and it doesn't make the walls in my baby's room wet. The other humidifiers I've used left everything damp and I was getting pretty tired of my baby suffering from dry nose because nothing else worked. I'm glad I got this humidifier because I think it's perfect. The baby's room is pretty small and this humidifier works perfectly in it. It doesn't leak and leave wet spots on my floor, which is another plus. I haven't had any problems whatsoever so far.
One of the most difficult purchases in a long time

Review Date: January 4, 2008
Reviewer: Michael Shaw, Hagerstown, MD
My grandparents had a cabin in Canada, and their "humidifier" was a shovel full of snow in a big pot on the wood stove. Ah...those were the days. Fast forward to the present, in my home without a wood stove, to a complaining wife and stuffy newborn. What I thought was a seemingly easy task turned into a nightmare, thanks to the internet and Amazon reviews.

The type was easy. Cool mist is too moldy (unless they are kept clean, and let's be realistic, who actually cleans humidifiers?) and filters are pricey, ultrasonic has the added benefit of the "white powder" in the air and settling on everything, and the whole-home kind that are attached to the furnace ducts aren't really made for small heat pump HVAC like I have in my house. So, warm mist it was, and I started on my journey to find the perfect one.

And it was a journey. I found fancy ones with all sorts of features, and cheap ones that made steam. All had one thing in common, those that hated them and gave them one star, and those that loved them and gave them more stars.

Meanwhile, my wife borrowed her mother's humidifier, which happened to be a many year old version of this particular one. It's the same humidifier we've borrowed every year since my wife and I got married five years ago. After playing with the idea of a UV lighted, mineral pad soaking, multi-gallon capacity, built-in hygrometer monster, I decided to get two of these units instead--at a cheaper price. Why?

For one, my mother-in-law's unit still runs like a champ after all this use. We really only use it at night for sleeping. The trick is to fill it up and run it on high while getting ready for bed, and then turn it on low when going to sleep. The water lasts all night and it increases the humidity nicely.

For two, many of the features offered on more expensive models are all but useless. So many people complain about filling the things--is it really that hard to walk to the sink once a day? In order to kill airborne germs, a lot more is needed than the tiny UV light offered in other humidifiers. If the built-in hydrometer is out of whack, too bad! Mineral filtration pads? Unless a person is unlucky enough to live in a "liquid rock" area, a good wiping with paper towel soaked in vinegar once a week is all that's needed to clean the heating element.

Sometimes, less is more, and I believe this is definitely the case with humidifiers.
Good, basic humidifier

This is my third warm mist humidifier. They just don't last very long. The cool mist ones don't seem to make the room more humid. The last one I had (which looked similar to this) lasted two years, and the rubber stopper part at the bottom dried up during the summer (when it was not in use) and cracked. My first one only last one year. I am resigned to the fact that I will likely have to buy a humidifier every 1-2 years, so I'd better not spend a lot for them. This one works well, and on the low setting, can last 10-11 hours. This setting is enough for my medium sized room. On high output, it goes through the water very quickly, and if your room is small, will feel tropical. The one thing I don't like about this one is that after putting the dial on the desired setting, you still have to push a "start" button to make it start putting out mist.
Very Smart Purchase

I really like this humidifier and have been on the very difficult journey to discover which humidifier will work for me, whether cool or warm mist is better and which actually does what it says the same as everyone else. I get frequent sinus infections and am in great need of a humidifier here in the northeast during the cold months with the heat. I just constantly don't feel good without one. For over 10 years I have used cool mist humidifiers. I honestly never considered a warm one. The last one I had was a Holmes and it was certainly not cheap. I took good care of it and it still worked only 1 year. The filters were expensive and the unit was very noisy Last year when it worked it worked well, but last winter it worked only half the time. I did not know where to turn.

A friend suggested a warm air humidifier and I looked into it and liked what I read. I then researched, reading reviews and customer comments - even using Consumer Report. I kept coming back to this one and saw the definite mix of positive and negative reviews. I read all the negatives and saw that most were looking for the humidifier to do or be more than it said it was.

I live in a studio apartment and the humidifier says it is for rooms 400 to 700 square feet. Perfect for me. It also says that it runs up to 12 hours on one filling and it does. When I run it on the low speed it lasts 12 hours exactly. The directions also say to disinfect it before the first use. This is very important. With something like a humidifier it is very important to follow all directions. If you do not, you don't have a right to complain if it does not work correctly. This humidifier is very easy to clean/maintain and also very easy to fill. If you do not want to be filling it every 12 hours or more then get a different humidifier. For me, it is very simple and easy knowing I need to easily fill it every 12 hours.

The humidifier also makes no noise at all on either the high or low speed. I find that when running it constantly on low my humidity level is perfect and I feel great. This machine does exactly what it says it does so make sure that it will satisfy your needs. It is easy to use/maintain - so much simpler than a cool mist humidifier. I will never return to a cool mist one again.

I highly recommend this unit and say just make sure it is what you want before purchasing. Hope this helps you with your humidifier decisions.

The plastic on this model is pretty thin and flimsy, so I'm always afraid I am going to accidentaly snap or crack a part (like the screw-on lid) and completely destroy the product or render it useless, but the overall engineering design is really good, it is still working after about a year, great for baby, great for me. For the price I am satisfied, but I wish they would make more of a "mercedes" model for a slightly higher price that uses the same design, maybe a little more technology for the controls and more durable plastic. I love the fact that the water tank is removable, fillable and sealed shut for the trip back to the unit, no pouring or spilling involved. I bought this model because it has the same water tank and mist tower design as a Sunbeam cool mist humidifier that my parents used on me as a baby (which I still have and use for my son), and that thing is damn near indestructible.

This humidifier may lack options that expensive ones have, but it is still a good deal. The sound is silent and the water tank has two handles on top and bottom for your convenience. It does not require a filter because it does not have any filtering process. The buttons for "high" or "low" humidicifations are all you need and that pretty much all it has.
The weak point is that the water tank is so small that you need to fill it again after the use of a night. And the "start" button does not have any indication whether it is pressed or not (you have to listen to it untill it sounds to heat the water).
Overall, it's a practical humidifier and a low price.
Needs an automatic humidity control

Works great. Increases the humidify in my baby's room (~20ft x 20ft) by 10% in about 2-3 hours. That's not bad. But bon't use it in the summer. During this same period, the temperature in the room will go up by about 4-5 degrees F.

My only complain is that this unit does not automatically regulate the humidity in the room. So I have manually turn it on and off to avoid over humidifying the room and causing mildew and fungus growth. It does have a "high" and "low" output mode which helps a bit, but it's not sufficient for me to feel comfortable leaving the unit run all night.

It works really well.I would recommend buying it. The only thing is, when using highest setting, this humidifier is not the most quiet one. If you are a light sleeper - you probably won't like it. It is very easy to operate and clean, as well as replacing the water. The price is not too bad either.

Happy with product overall. We decided to go with a warm humidifier for cleanliness and because we only use it in winter. This one makes some gurgling noises as the water drains down into the machine, which doesn't bother me, but might bother you if you are a light sleeper. Needs to be refilled about every 4 hours on high.

I purchased the humidifier for my bedroom, but it "glugged" my wife & I awake. I then plugged it on my office, and got a Honeywell QuietCare for my bedroom. It was a win-win, because I love the warm-mist of the Duracraft, and don't mind the occasional glug while I'm working. Other reviewers are correct that the 2-1/2 gallon is false advertising, but I actually like the small tank now. One tank lasts me exactly one day, so I like the idea that the water isn't just sitting around overnight. On a side note, the Honeywell QuietCare doesn't glug, so it's still in our bedroom.
My humidifier after tons of research

I spent literally hours researching humidifiers and hope my experience will help you make a good purchase.

Here are my conclusions:

1. It is near impossible to find a good quality humidifier and many people (myself included) get frustrated with the search. Who knew humidifiers were so hard to make!?

2. The best one on the market seems to be the "Air-O-Swiss AOS Ultrasonic Humidifier - 7135" at a cost of over $140. It seems that unless you are willing to open your wallet for this particular model, finding a good humidifier is a crapshoot and you might as well get the cheapest one that seems to work. Every humidifier has reports of malfunctions and/or poor craft. Even this model has over 10% reports of malfunction. Other than that, though, people's only complaint has to do with false advertising related to the size of the tank.

3. My purchase: I have had the Duracraft DMW250 for a few weeks and have not had any issues with it.
This product seems to be exactly the same as the "HONEYWELL/ENVIRACAIRE HWM910 Warm Moisture 2 Gallon Humidifier by Honeywell/Enviracaire." It only has a 1 gallon tank but it works well for my bedroom and has greatly improved the air quality during our New England winters. I no longer wake up with sore throats and dry lips. I refill it basically every day and it lasts for about 14 hours on the low setting. I don't have to worry about buying and replacing filters because this is a warm mist humidifier, although I may pay more in my electric bill than I would for a cool mist since it takes more energy to heat the water. It is virtually silent! You will hear a small "gurgle" or "bubble bubble" once in a while but that's it. It's construction seems flimsy but it's really easy fill and take apart for cleaning. It's one of the least expensive models and it works well.

4. My advice? Don't spend a lot of time researching. A good quality humidifier simply does not exist.
Buy the Air-O-Swiss if you have the money, or purchase the cheapest model you can find that has a lot of reviews and a decent to good review average (statistical research suggests that people review things either when they are really happy or really unhappy). Amazon's prices are better than other places I tried and their product reviews were aligned with other consumer reports.

This humidifier is great for putting lots of water into the air. We keep our door closed to our bedroom at night and when you walk in you can instantly feel the difference. The only problem is that it runs out of water after about 6 hours. If you set it on low it doesn't put our enough water and on high it only lasts about 6 hours. But it is still great.

Did a lot of review reading before purchasing this humidifier. In short, I feel this was the best buy for the price! It may or may not be as quality as some $130 warm-air humidifier, but this one certainly works great for our approx. 200sq ft. bedroom. No problems as long as you follow through with cleaning it regularly.

Other customer reviews helped in my decision making while looking for a humidifier. I chose this humidifier and have been very happy with it. I use it during the night only for sleeping. The tank holds more than enough water to get me through the night - roughly 10 hours (hey, a girl has to watch a little TV before getting her veauty sleep). I give it 4 1/2 stars - it does drip a little water when I remove the tank & place it back on the base for filling. This is the first humidifier I have ever owned and am not sure if this is normal for all machines or not. I sleep much better while it is on and it even heats up the bedroom a few degrees. A highly recommended product!
Pretty good unit

Reviewer: Humdiddy,
I agree with several other reviewers that buying a humidifier is a nightmare purchase, but after some considerable reading and shopping, I settled on this 2.5 gallon/ day Duracraft warm mist humidifier. Compared to what was available locally, this is a pretty solid unit at a very good price.

A couple other comments: as others have said, fancier units with built in humidity measurement are not worth much.. making accurate measurements of humidity is a challenge in itself, and even if the gauge supplied on a humidifier was accurate, who cares what the humidity is right next to the humidifier? Get a Caliber III digital hygrometer (I did; see my review), put it where you want to measure humidity, and call it good. For less than $50. you can have both the Duracraft and the Caliber III. Except on the coldest driest winter days, the humidity in my house (~1800sf) gets boosted from 10%-20% to ~32% one room away from the humidifier, & ~25% at the other end of the house. Better than it was, but not ideal.

Cleaning is a pain, but it only takes a few minutes. We have hard water, and a couple times a week I get rid of the scale & deposits using an old toothbrush to get the hard to reach stuff.

The product works well. It keeps a medium size room humidified during very cold weather. There was much confusion in the reviews that I read before purchasing it about its claim to be a 2-1/2 gallon humidifier. If you read the box, the fine prints says that the 2-1/2 gallon figure refers to its daily OUTPUT not the size of its reservoir, which is a little misleading since that information is not in the product description that you can read before you buy. It does its job well. Just be prepared to refill the reservoir 2-3 times in 24 hours if you run it on high.
Duracraft humidifier

I bought this humidifier in March, after having suffered through too many dry winter nights. Now I really wish I'd bought one sooner! For $25, it's a relatively painless purchase, and it's made quite a difference in my comfort while sleeping - less stuffy noses and fewer nose bleeds.

It's not super fancy, but it makes steam, which is really all I wanted in a humidifier. We tend to use it by turning it on high a little before bed, and then turning it down to low before sleeping (on high, it won't make it through the night - which is too bad, but something I planned on when purchasing a humidifier of this size). Doing things this way, we use about 1/2 to 2/3rds of the tank each night.

Yes, you have to fill it every night, but it's really quite painless to do. The tank detaches, you fill it, you pop it back on. Easy! And yes, you do have to press the little "start" switch, but it's seriously half a second's worth of "extra work" - not the major issue some reviewers have made it out to be. I saw a review that suggested it was hard to know when the machine was on, particularly in the dark - but I think it's actually quite easy. When the humidifier is on, the light comes on. If for some reason your light was defective, it only takes a moment for the machine to make some steaming sounds, and every now and then, the water burbles. (This was slightly startling at first, but now I find it kind of comforting.) Also, you can easily feel the steam with your hand over the machine if you give it a moment to get started. Basically, if you have turned the dial to "low" or "high" and pressed down the "start" switch, the humidifier is working. That's really not so hard!

Definitely clean the unit periodically, as instructed by the manual. We didn't at first, and the mineral buildup and sediment was kind of...really icky.

Overall, this is an inexpensive humidifer which makes steam and works through the night on a low setting, which is what I wanted and expected from this purchase.

I like this humidifier and I like it's price.
I like that is has high and low settings. I like that it auto shuts off when it runs out of water. I like that it doesn't have a filter (which is why I had to get a new humidifier). I like that the tank stands on the counter so I can fill it (another problem with my previous humidifier). I like that there's a handle on the bottom of the tank. I like how quiet it is.
I'm taking advice I read somewhere and using a Brita filter for the water I put into the humidifier.
I wish the off-med-hi knob was a little bigger.

I like this humidifier. It runs smoothly and quietly. I also must say that their customer service is great. I had a question for them about using the medicine cup and they have been emailing back and forth with me.
The only thing I think people should realize - and the only reason why I sort of wished I had gotten a different one is that the capacity is very low. Even if you fill the reservoir completely before going to bed it still wont be able to make it through the night. This is disappointing but I imagine is simply due to its small water capacity and not to its function-ability.

My wife recently started a new job in the desert southwest and was complaining about the dry air. I sent her one of these and she really likes it over the various types of humidifiers we've used in the past. She says the tank is easy to remove, fill, and put back on. She likes the carry handle on the tank and the oversized cap is easy to remove when filling with water. There are no filters to clean or replace. She's been using it every night for the last three weeks and hasn't had to clean it once. Use distilled water, it cost a little more than tap water, but the mist it produces is pure and clean and no messy clean up to do on the humidifier. Oh, did I mention it is one of the lowest cost humidifiers available? The only downside if the tank is kind of small but for the price and convenience of use I've not found a better humidifier.

We have owned this humidifier for more than a year now and this is our second winter. It is working just fine for us. We can fill it up once a night and then let it run for on high speed -- The water is finished by the end of the day and we think that that is enough moisture for our daughters' room. Cleaning the heating element and the other things in the humidifier also does not take that much effort. A little vinegar does the trick easily. Given the price, I think that this is a great buy. Would recommend it to every one on a tight budget.

Warm mist humidifiers are self sterilizing and don't leave mineral dust over everything. This unit works very effectively but it is nowhere close to being 2.5 gallon size so it has to be refilled often. But there is an advantage in that-throwing out the old remaining water in the base stretches the cleaning time. The best way to clean is quite warm vinegar, let sit for an hour or two, and scrape with an old wood Popsicle stick. The stick is hard enough to help remove deposits but not hard enough to damage the plastic. The 2 power choice is handy.
These don't last more than 2 or 3 years before refusing to operate. But they are cheap so just buy a new one.

I bought this because the heat in the house dries out my skin. I would rather be ice cold then have my skin feel dry and itchy but with this humidifier I don't have to chose. It's really easy to use and very quiet. It was so quiet at first I wasn't sure if it was working. It does a good job of humidifing the air without making it feel damp like a cool mist one does. It does have a small light that lights on it that seems very bright in a dark room but not enough to keep you up. It is very easy to take apart and clean. You just use white vinegar and bleach and let it sit. Very easy. I bought two of these-one for my bedroom and one for my den. It seems like the one in my den lasts very long even on high and the one in my bedroom barely lasts about seven hours on low. I'm afraid that if I sleep to long it will dry out and break the machine but for me it's not a big deal because I usually get up a few times when I'm sleeping.

Overall very pleased with this. A good value for the price and I would purchase this again. I was able to make my room into a tropical paradise when it was very cold and dry outside!
Good for small rooms

Review Date: December 19, 2009
Reviewer: Ordinary guy,
As I stated in a review of a bigger, evaporative style (fan forced vs. warm mist) humidifier, there is no perfect, portable humidity delivering device on the market today....from any manufacturer. They all have their limitations and all require regular maintenance.
This warm mist humidifier works well in a small room but would be overtaxed in larger spaces. It's quiet, a little gurgling when the water enters the heating chamber, and as far as it's tank capacity it does only hold about a gallon of water but will last the night on low. Try lifting 2.5 gals of liquid and you'll probably appreciate the smallish tank size.
Recommended for small bedrooms, just remember it emits steam and children love to stick their faces in humidifier vapor.

I bought this humidifier four years ago when I was pregnant with my daughter. It has worked great for us through 3 moves and 4 states (I kept the box to pack it in for the moves). I will agree that it is defiantly NOT 2.5 gallons, but it works fine for a bedroom.

PROS:
It has a small cup where you can put tea tree or eucalyptus oil that will get picked up by the mist and help if you have a cold.
It is warm mist which is nice in the winter.
It is not loud, making only a gurgling every so often.
Auto turn off when the tank is empty.

CONS:
After four years of use and several moves it has decided it doesn't want to warm up enough to make mist any more. :( But considering the price this isn't a bad lifespan.

I would buy another, however I am looking for a bigger one that will work for the whole house or at least the whole upstairs so I don't have to have more then one.

This is a nice humidifier and I really appreciate the large tank opening for ease of cleaning and filling. However, I do wish the tank was larger. Set on high mist the water doesn't last very long and set to low mist just doesn't seem like enough mist. Misleading title

While listed as a 2-1/2-Gallon Warm Mist Humidifier, in fact its capacity is a fraction of that. Presumably the rationale for this deceptive description is that it can put that amount of water out as mist in a day, but to do so requires refillings. It is not clear at which setting, High or Low output, this claim is made, probably the former.

Excellent quite operation and no need for any filters. The capacity should be increased as it is not sufficient overnight to run this on the High speed. If kept on low speed there is absolutely no issue.
Simplicity

Reviewer: NY, NY,
After a long and arduous search for the perfect humdifier, I finally settled on the simplest of them all.

Pros: Extremely quiet, lightweight, compact, low maintenance, simple operation.
Cons: LOw capacity

All in all, it's a great buy for the buck. I'm overall pretty satisfied with it. It is by far the quietest humidifier I've ever owned. I often have to check the mist output to make sure it's on. I love how there are no filters or pads to replace; simple and low maintenance.

I only wish they made this product with a greater capacity. It will only operate for a couple of hours on high before refilling. In order to make it through a night's sleep, you must keep the setting on low. I live in a home with very dry winter heating where the humidity level is about 20% with no humidifier. In order to maintain optimal humidity level in my bedroom through the night, I'll run it on high until I acheive desired humidity. Then I'll refill the tank right before bedtime and keep it on low to last through the night. It's definitely cumbersome, but I accept the compromise for how quiet it is.

If you have a medium/large room, I do not recommend it. I've noticed it's been ineffective in my living room, which is only about 400 sq ft. It works fine in my bedroom, which is less than 200 sq ft.

In summary, perfection does not exist. The humdifiers with larger capacities and all the bells and whistles were either much noisier or required regular replacements of mineral absorption pads and/or filters. If your top priorities are quiet and low maintenance, then I doubt you'll find a better humidifier, esp. at this price. Just be prepared for daily multiple refills.

This humidifier seems to work fine, but the title is misleading. I don't think it even holds a gallon of water. I guess the output can be 2.5 gallons per day if you refill it 4-5 times? It might work for a VERY small room, but it doesn't last 1/2 the night in our bedroom and it doesn't seem to do much. We would have to fill it every few hours to get the level of humidity noticably higher. We bought it to replace an old humidifier that actually holds 2.5 gallons and we were disappointed. I'll have to look for another now...
Disappointing

1. This is most definitely not 2.5 gallons. The box says "2.5 gallons per day", which is just the stupid ramblings of the marketing department. It's about 1 gallon.
2. Anyone who says this humidifier is "loud" is out of their mind. My last humidifier was loud. It had a big noisy fan that blew air through a filter. This one just bubbles gently in the corner. I've measured it with an SPL meter at 34 dB from about 1 meter. For comparison, "silence" in my room is 31 dB. My old humidifier that I hate is 61 dB, at the same distance.
3. I've had it on for 5 hours and, although it's been pumping out visible steam, the humidity hasn't risen from the 29% RH it was when I started. I've only had this for 3 days, and I thought it was working fine the other days, but maybe the humidity was affected more by the outside weather than by the humidifier. If it can't humidify any more than this, I'll be sending it back.

Update: I woke up this morning with my eyes, nose and mouth completely dried out. The humidity was 28%, and the humidifier's tank was empty, even though I had filled it right before bed. The tank is too small to last through the night.

Even when it works, I don't see the humidity getting very high unless the outside air is humid, too. My bedroom's only 45 square feet. You would think it would be able to humidify just my room, but it doesn't seem to be able to.
So far, so good...

Reviewer: Buddyjay,
Like others, I researched humidifiers for a long time. Last year was the first time I considered buying one but just didn't do it. This year, as soon as the weather turned cold, I noticed sinus trouble. For the next three weeks, my throat was sore/dry and nasal passages were... well you know. I was convinced that it was the dry air (forced hot air) in the house.

I finally bought the Duracraft because of the good reviews and price. The unit is in my bedroon, which is only 130 sq. feet. The humidity in my room is 35-40% (without humidifier) and the first night, I used it on low. The unit is VERY quiet, with slight gurgling sounds. It kind of sounds like small rain drops hitting your window sill. Not un-pleasant at all. On low, the unit lasted for 12 hours. The humidity only went up about 5%.
In the morning, I tried it on high for about two hours and the humidity shot up to 60%, but the windows were getting fogged and my ceiling was damp. I have yet to determine how long it would run on "high".

The next night, I put it on at 8:00pm (low) and closed my bedroom door. The humidity went to 50% and again, it lasted for 12 hours. My throat has felt much better and sinuses are clearer. I cannot attest to whether I need to keep my door shut or not. But my main concern is how I feel in the morning.

I cannot comment on cleaning yet, but I am using filtered tap water to hopefully help with cleaning.

This unit is definately for small rooms (on low) and will function even better if you can close a door. It is very easy to fill and as I stated, lasts for 12 hours on low. I am not sure why some people claim that it is only lasting for 6-7 hours, on low? Ideally, I wish that there was a medium setting as this would be ideal, for me. But definately not a deal breaker.

I do agree with others that when you first start the machine, you cannot tell if it's working... it's that quiet. I will do an update in about a month.

Update: 3/2/2010
To me this unit screams for a medium setting. Low is okay but is a little too low. High has good output but only lasts about 6 hours and on this setting my ceiling gets wet. A directional nozzle could take care of that problem. To me...if this had a bigger tank for the high setting and a directional nozzle or had a medium setting, this would get 5 stars from me. It is an extremely quiet machine.

Update as of January 2009: After using it for little over 2 months the unit not only leaked, it lost ALL water at once, soaking my new hardwood floor. Not only that, Duracraft almost doubled the price since I bought it. I will not even bother to claim warranty, I am sure they will find "something" to avoid a replacement. Now I am searching for another brand, and definitely one that has a larger tank and does not mislead customers by describing it with 2,5 gallons when in fact it holds only 0,7. Sorry that I could not take away all 3 stars I gave it earlier.

I recently bought this humidifier and so far it works well. The reason why I gave it only 3 instead of more stars is that the title "2-1/2-Gallon Warm Mist Humidifier" is misleading. The container holds about 2,5 LITERS which is about 0,7 GALLONS. On the package it says that the "Output" is 2,5 gallons but this is nowhere mentioned in the description.

Overall, I like it, my bedroom feels so much more comfortable, and I run it in the living room too during daytime. If you buy it, be prepared that on high output it will not last a day or night, but if you set it to low in your bedroom it will last through the night.

I bought this because it was one of the best-reviewed of the affordable warm-steam humidifiers out there, and I have not been disappointed in my use of it for a few weeks now. The water tank lasts all night and then some on the low setting, and maybe 5-6 hours on the high setting. I only use it to keep our winter bedroom a bit less dry during these cold months, and for that it is a fine product.

The case and connection between the base, tank, and "electric" portion is kind of flimsily built, as I see it. They're not gonna break or fall apart, but it's not the greatest nor the sturdiest series of connections. But then again, it sits on a table, so what does it matter?

The fact that you have to press the "Start" button every time it gets turned off and then back on is a bit confusing, because you don't know if it's actually DOING anything until steam comes after a few seconds/minutes. The light indicates that the High/Low knob is on, not the start button, you see.

Overall, great humidifier, though!

As someone else stated, the title is definitely deceiving. This is a tiny unit. I'm keeping it for now because I have a small room and only run the unit over night.
eh, decent...

Well i dediced to buy a humidifier after years of getting bloddy noses from the dryness in the winter, so far i haven't gotten any (that could also be because iv'e been breathing out my nose more and not in because of the moisture from your lungs). i also bought a humidity monitory thingy, and it seems that this humidifier can only increase the humidity just a little 5%-10% at most.
But what i love is the little medicine cup on top, i bought some oils and put them in there, and wow. it smells great.
Duracraft Humidifier

No complaints on the operation....works great and puts out the water vapor quietly, but it's adversised as 2 1/2 gallons. I bought it specificly for that reason (the one I had was a one gallon). On the high setting, it will only run for about 7 hours.....not enough for a full nights sleep.
Not as advertised

This works great - I have used the same brand humidifier for years. However, this is NOT a 2 1/2 gallon tank as advertised. Only about 1/2 gallon. It will last thru the night on low, but not on high. I am very disappointed that they don't seem to believe in truth in advertising. I may return it just because of that.
meh...its alright

The humidifier itself works fine (it humidifies as its supposed to), but Duracraft claims that it automatically turns off when it runs out of water - which it DOES NOT!!! I left it on once during the day while I went to work, came home, no water in it, and it was still on, steaming hot. Probably could've caused a fire if I had been away from home any longer. DON'T LEAVE IT ON AND ASSUME THE AUTO-TURN OFF WORKS!!!
OK, but small, I measured the capacity of this unit

I've had my humidifier for over a year and it's worked well in that time. It doesn't hold a lot of water. A moment ago I filled the reservoir within a centimeter of the top with water and measured the result and I found it held 88 US fluid ounces (0.6875 US gallons.) Although it was much smaller than expected when I received it, and I felt the description was misleading, the unit performs well. It's not too loud for me at all. On high, it usually runs out of water before the night is through. I tend to run it on high when I'm awake and refill as necessary and run it on low when asleep. I've actually never cleaned it (bad me) and it does have some mineral deposit 'junk' that leaks out the side sometimes. It tends to increase the humidity of a room a little bit, it can get my 11% humidity room up (living room/dining room without carpet) to 20% on the high setting usually if the windows are shut. The machine usually works well. Sometimes it seems I don't press a button completely and it doesn't start when it should. The handle you carry the water by seems flimsy and likely to break at any minute. I usually hold the water container by the bottom as well as the top handle to prevent any accidents. Overall, though, if you are looking for a .6875 capacity unit (not a 2.5 gallon unit), and you want a bare bones humidifier that will humidify a small room, you will probably be happy with this.
Buy NEW, received OPEN BOX

The product works well after using it for one night. However, I can only give it 3 stars because Amazon sent me the open box. The tape sealed the box was cut off and replace with another tape with a different color. There is no bag covering the product as you can see the manufacture includes it when they pack their product.

I am not going to ask to return because of this. But I am not happy either.
Worked for 1.5 Winters... Flismy Construction

I bought this exact model number at a local hardware store. It lasted a winter and a half before it burned out. The heating element would only get warm, but not hot enough to evaporate any water. The two sides, the water tank and the heating element side don't always line up. There's a safety switch triggered by the water tank making good contact with the heating element side. If it isn't lined up perfectly it won't work. Very frustrating.
Deceptive capacity

I bought this unit to replace a very similar model (with built-in hygrometer, which never worked). That model ran for years before the start switch stopped working. I like the general design and it remains simple and effective. You do get scale build-up on the heating element, in spite of weekly cleaning, and depending on how mineralized your water is. But, this is a relatively low cost unit and a big improvement over the filter-based approach.

My complaint is with the "2.5 gallon capacity." Right. My old unit probably held 2 gallons of water. In mid-winter this meant 1 - 2 refills/24 hrs., depending on whether I used the low or high setting. This unit holds about a gallon. I'll be wearing a path to the sink. The 2.5 gallon capacity refers to the unit's ability to vaporize 2.5 gallons/day, if you care to make 2.5 trips to the sink/day.

I'd send it back but shipping would probably cost more than half what I paid for it. I'll probably end up using this unit upstairs, then buying another unit for the main floor.

File this one under misleading advertising!

I had 2 of these. The first one came straight out of the box with a leak in the water reservoir. Exchanged that for another one. The second one lasted maybe a year? I used it only when the family was ill, so maybe 20 times? It completely stopped heating. It lights up, but doesn't do anything else. I'd stay away from this model.

When considering this humidifier compare quanity of 2 1/2 gallons of milk....not much. This humidifier works very well....but not for very long...if you have it on high it doesn't even last 8 hours for overnight. I bought it to replace a 60 dollar cool mist one with "permanent" filter which gave out within 2 months. Warm mist is much better as no filter needed. Definitely should have paid more & gotten larger one.
MILDEW + Humidifier = bacterial infection?

Review Date: January 15, 2009
Reviewer: E. Song, Brooklyn, NY
This humidifier seemed to work really well for the first few days. But after the 3rd or 4th day, I noticed a lot of mildew growing inside the unit. So, I cleaned the unit almost daily, but despite my scrubbing, it always came back (no big surprise, I suppose... heat + water + dark enclosed space = mildew). In fact, it was stained onto the unit so badly that no amount of scrubbing seemed to get rid of it all.

The problem is, I think I may have developed a bacterial infection from the mildew. I can't be sure, of course, since this is flu season. But I couldn't shake this sore throat and congestion for weeks. Then after a round of antibiotics, it went away. Soon after, I started using the humidifier again... and lo and behold, my symptoms returned.

It's not a definite correlation, but I'm definitely NOT going to use this thing anymore.

I've had this for about a week.

Why oh why didn't I first read the Amazon user comments before buying this (2-1/2-Gallon) 'THING'! Other people have the same complaint! (I'm smacking myself in the head)

It works and makes warm water vapor without using a fan, it's quiet except for frequent 'gurgling'. HOWEVER, it does not contain enough water to last the night! You 'think' you're getting a 2.5 gallon water tank but you're only getting a tank near .5 gallon. I have to get up in the middle of the night (which I'm not happy doing) to fill the small tank a second time and then I'm so angry i can't get back to sleep! Grrrrrrrr!

The deceptive fine print says it 'produces', 2.5 gallons of STEAM output a day! I'm not a rocket scientist but I know when I'm being mislead. BOO on the company! The deceptive description must have been written by a U.S. politician. Who measures STEAM in gallons?

Duracraft DWM250 '2-1/2-Gallon' Warm-Mist Humidifier is very deceptive.

It might be 'ok' for a few hours but not all night and since they lied about the capacity hard telling what else is wrong.

So I'll give this to a friend with a warning and I'm purchasing a Vicks unit with dual tanks, and anti-germ light for more money but I just want something that works for me and this doesn't

Granted, I should have read all the technical information and not go by the Big description at the top of the page but I kinda feel they knew what they were doing...
Not worth it..............

I bought this same one from Target last year for my daughters room. When it is on, it does what it is supposed to do, so I guess that is good. However as others have mentioned there is a "start" button feature which is really annoying and I will never buy another one even similiar to it again. You have to set it to low or high, whichever you want, and then you need to push down this start button. Since the mist doesn't start coming right away it was hard to know if for sure the thing was even turned on or not. This was particularly troubling in the night when I was trying to do this in the dark so as not to disturb my child. It is virtually impossible to know if it is on or not.....you literally have to wait for the unit to warm up the water enough to start the steam feature....which can take several minutes. I prefer to just use one that you turn on, and know it is on. So in my opinion even though this unit does work, the annoying qualities of it make it not worth it.....
Broken when it arrived

After reading many positive reviews of this product, I ordered one for myself. I disinfected it according to the instructions, filled the tank with water, and ..... nothing. Although the unit was plugged in and the power light was on, no steam ever emerged. The instructions say that it will take 5-10 minutes for the machine to begin producing steam, I left mine on for more than an hour with no luck. A call to the manufacturer's customer service line took ages, and they had no idea what the problem was. Diagnosis: it's broken. (Duh.) One interesting note: the service rep mentioned that these units were no longer being manufactured and that whoever was selling them (Amazon, in this case) was selling older merchandise that they had warehoused. She encouraged me to buy a "newer" model, though it is impossible for me as a consumer to tell which humidifier models are current and which are older. Unlike books, they don't have publication dates.
poorly engineered and deceptively advertised

Reviewer: Thomas J. Bruno,
The description of this thing as a 2 1/2 gallon unit is nonsense. The tank will hold perhaps 1 1/2 quarts. The figure stated, 2 1/2 gallons, comes from the potential of adding 2 1/2 gallons of moisture per day to a room. Sure, if you fill it up five times in the course of a day! I ordered two, and discovered the deception when they arrived (one cannot tell from the fraudulent description). I sent it back and insisted that the mfg pay for shipping, else I would charge back on the CC. Moreover, the unit puts out very little moisture even on the high setting. Duracraft made better units 15 years ago. These are less than junk.

I first bought this humidifier directly from Amazon in December, but it refused to function. The power light came on but the heating element never warmed up (I left it on overnight to be certain). Fortunately Amazon's return service is flawless.
I decided to give it one more try, and just received the replacement unit (again, I ordered directly from Amazon). The fill cap was missing from the water tank.
No more chances from me! :(

Shipping time, ordering fine. I performed the recommended, pre-use cleaning, followed the instructions on use and the unit didn't do anything. The power light comes on, but when I push the start button, nothing happens. I don't know if I just got the one lemon or if these things are crap. Called Kaz customer service and got a suggestion to add a pinch of salt. That didn't have any effect.

There just don't seem to be any good humidifiers out there. I was careful each time I cleaned this unit. However, the bottom plastic reservoir bowed out in just over a month's use causing the water reservoir to continually drain. This does not allow the unit to work right. Even tried rigging it with packing tape, worked for a day now completely out of commission.
Capacity is mis-advertised

First of all, this is definitely not a 2.5 gallon tank. It holds roughly half a gallon of water. It does not hold enough water to run overnight on "high".

One other quibble is about the design -- that the button to there is both a knob for high/low/off settings, AND a button to press to start things off. Plugging it in a setting it to high is not enough -- you have to press the button as well. To make matters worse sometimes all that doesn't quite work (maybe the tank is not sitting just right?) -- and you can't find out since it takes several minutes to start anyway. So you have to do everything and check back a few minutes later whether it started.

Finally, the periodic glug-glug sound is a bit on the loud side. A continuous or more frequent trickle might have been quieter...

Used this maybe 8 times. Unit ran dry a couple nights ago (it has a shut off). Used it last night and it shut off after 15 minutes. I use RO water so there was no build up in the heat element. Triple checked to make sure it was hooked up correctly. No go. BTW, I was getting about 5 hours on a full tank on "high" and about 8-9 hours on low. I can return it to the manufacturer at about $15 shipping plus give them a check for $10 "handling". For something I spent $25 on five weeks ago? Right. I see it is now $38....

Delivery was prompt, Thanks. But one of them is not working (electrical switch failure) and the 2nd one I purchased cracked when it got gently knocked against the bed before it's first refill. It now leaks where it cracked which I am responsible for but it also fell apart at the seam (refill end of tank) rendering it useless!! We'll stick to Honeywell humidifiers that have proven themselves more durable and reliable.

Tank arrived cracked. I was fortunate to have placed several chunks of newspaper under the unit, so when it leaked, there was no damage.

For an inexpensive product, it was not worth it to me to hassle with returning it to find out if the next one would work.
