I bought one of these plug-in Germ Guardians in hope to help with allergies, household smells, and to possibly avoid passing along colds in our household. I was very skeptical of it at first... I plugged it in next to our diaper pail not expecting it to take away the smell and came back a little while later and the smell was gone! I noticed that the air in the room smelled a little fresher and I also felt a slight breeze from it all the way across the room.
I use a lot of bleach when I do the laundry and the entire laundry room reeks of bleach after. I plugged in the germ guardian and the bleach smell was pretty much eliminated - it didn't go away entirely but was about 95% better.
The Germ Guardian isn't as quiet as I would like it to be. I tried using it in our bedroom and it gives off a constant humming noise (similar to white noise) which I don't mind, but it also gives off a noise which sounds a lot like when you have ringing in your ears which is slightly annoying. Perhaps it's just my unit however and not all do this. It also does not cover a large space. The box says it covers around 480 square feet, which isn't much. I plan to buy one for each of my bathrooms and might use one or two in each bedroom.
Overall it's a great product and I'm very pleased with it. I have already ordered three more. |

| I purchased one of these for my sons bedroom and also the larger Germ Guardian EV-9-102 UV-C Air Sanitizer, Stainless Steel for our great room. Our Family had been passing around soar throats, colds and the kids had ear infections since October. They would get better from the antibiotic and as soon as they were off it, they would be sick again. Since putting this in our home, (knock on wood) no one in the family has had a cold and that is awesome, especially because of the holidays and all the stomach flu-like symptoms that were going around...we didn't get it!!! I have ended up putting one of the GG-1000 UV models in every bedroom and one in the kitchen as well. I highly recommend this unit based on the few months we have owned them. |
It's been a year ... without getting sick

I got a set of two of these about a year ago on Amazon. One is in the bedroom, one in the family room ... the two most used rooms in the house. Since getting them, I haven't come down with any of the usual seasonal illnesses (colds/flu, etc.). Realistically, I can't say with any degree of certainty that the absence of the usual cold/flu is due to the Germ Guardian ... but, I will say that this is the first year that I haven't had at least one cold or flu issue for as long as I can remember. Based on that, I just ordered replacement bulbs for my set since it's worth continuing it if I can make it another year without getting sick!
The other write-ups are correct in that it doesn't generate a tremendous amount of air flow ... but I have mine placed in a unobstructed area so it's not blocked by furniture or have restricted airflow and it seems to do just fine. |

| I purchased three of these for my home recently and I really feel that they are working to sanitize the air in my home and kill germs. I purchased these because my husband has been quite ill and in and out of the hospital several times this year, so keeping the air clean is very critical to his health - he has not had any infections since we purchased these. |

| This works great for getting rid of odors!! I put it in my kitchen and it totally got rid of the odors from my trash can and it really does a good job of getting rid of cooking smells. Also took out the smell from the litter box near by. I'm going to get another one for the other end of my house, since it doesn't cover a huge area..... |

This is the same technology that our hospital and many restaurants use to keep the air clean.
We have used these in our baby's room and throughout the house for over a year and we have missed less work as a result of being sick.
The noise is minimal and the light is is a pleasant blue. |

| I recently purchased a Germ Guardian for our home. I read about it in Prevention magazine and have always been steered right by them. So far, my husband and I have been "cold free" this winter. I ordered a second one and now have one upstairs and one downstairs. My husband complained that it was too noisy in the family room, so I had to move it to another room. I do not find it to be too noisy. I was so pleased that I bought one for my daughter's home. |

| We have two of these small units in our downsized five-room retirement apartment. Our larger bathroom always smells fresh now. (I don't think the ceiling vent is doing its job.) The other unit is in the 10 x11 kitchen. I have noticed that cooking odors are no longer reeking through the apartment and store-bought air fresheners are a thing of the past. I'm a Happy Camper! |

I bought the large air purifier and two of wall plug versions in 2007, and they're still running strong.
I'm an elementary teacher and am constantly surrounded by a multitude of germs. In an effort to preserve my health, I decided to give these a try. The large unit lives in my classroom and runs 24/7 all school year long, and it definitely helps! (Healthier teacher, healthier students, everyone is happy). The two small units are plugged in my bathroom and bedroom. I live in the Bay Area, where mold is a problem, but I have yet to see (or smell) any in my home. In my opinion, you quickly become accustomed to the noise. Plus, I only have to change the bulbs about once every six months. Germ Guardian rocks!
PS: When I got married a year ago my husband asked what those "things" were and if they had to be on all the time. After catching a massive bug from my students he insists that I keep them running, and we've enjoyed perfect health since. |

| I was curious if this air sanitizer would really work and I have to say I'm very happy with it. I have it plugged in about four feet away from two litter boxes and it really does the job! You can't smell the litter boxes until you get right up to them. This is a great product and I recommend it highly. |

| Ive read other reviews on the product such as "falls out of outlet". As a contractor and after using this item myself I'm here to tell you if that's happening you have a worn electrical outlet. Ive been in homes where outlets were so worn a standard cord would barely stay in. The unit is quiet and versatile with the adjustable prongs that allow you to plug it in several positions. You will need to change the UV bulb once a year at about $15. |

I have had this Germ Guardian UV-C Air Sanitizer and here's the 411:
- REALLY eliminates odors - from diaper pails to pet odor, you name it.
- very light fan sound actually helps lull my son to sleep.
- portable, used during travel and family reunions - my son never caught a bug!
- great for business travelers (used this on hotel stays) and folks with roommates (students, when you're dorm mate is sick or has a cold, this might just save you!)
- use in room setting only for it to function at 100%.
To keep this gadget working, just follow the instructions and booklet, and KEEP the info - you'll need the info for bulb replacement and repair. Got mine repaired after 2 years of continued use to be certain that it is functioning well. Like any gadget, you have to care for it as well to keep it in optimum shape.
Worth the price. An absolute must have!!! |

| When the schoolyear starts, it seems that our daugther has one cold or sickness after another, which in turn gets passed to my toddler son. There is also question of some allergies in her and definite allergies in my husband. Since buying two of these, one for each child's room, they have not been sick at all and I TOTALLY associate this fact with buying the Germ Guardian!!! |
An excellent product

| For a small plug in device, the germ guardian circulates a large portion of air through the UV light area, and germs are killed. You can smell fresh clean air immediately. The fact that the UV kills many kinds of bacteria, the cold and flu virus, and serious bacteria such as anthrax, I find this impressive and it really works well. Fifty dollars well spent to prevent illness in the home. |

And to those non-believers about air purifiers and sanitizers, it works. Take my word for it. So far no nasal problems and i feel fresh when i wake up. |

| I bought this after reading another review that said it helped with litterbox odor. I was doubtful, as its not really made for that, but noticed that after a few days, the smell was pretty much gone. I bought another one for my living room and am really impressed with how much fresher the entire house smells. We aren't getting colds as often, so I do think it helps with germs. I really am very happy with this product and recommend it highly! |

My husband has lung problems and I only clean with vinegar (it may smell for a short time but it does not hurt his lungs like chemicals do). Traveling with him is a challenge since most hotels use very harsh chemicals to clean. This is very helpful to eliminate alot of the irritants. We check in, plug it into the wall and leave to do some sight seeing; by the time we return he can be in the room without difficulty. But be careful because it does not do well if you drop it (my fault I had to replace it).
It also gets rid of the dog smell (he likes to lay on our bed and pass gas) that accumulates in our room.

Ok, I have owned this little guy for a little over a week now and cant comment on its longevity, but... it certainly seems to work well. I am a pack a day smoker and like clockwork I catch any cold my significant other gets within a day or two. She came down with something last week when I bought this plug in unit and she is now finally starting to get over her cold or whatever. I have yet to get sick! I am sure there could be other reasons for this but let me assure you that a robust immune system is not one of them! :)
Some people complain about these units.. saying there is low airflow through them. I'll let you in on a little secret.. it takes some time in contact with light to kill germs in the air. If the air moved too fast the germs would not have enough contact time with the light to die. Put the unit in an area where the air moves around it. Perhaps near a door or in a room with a ceiling fan that normally runs. If you put it in the corner of a room with dead air.. its going to purify the heck out of that corner.. :)
I placed the unit on a kill-a-watt meter tonight and it registered a constant draw of 9 watts. Thats pretty great as far as air purifiers are concerned. I have electronics that draw more than that when they are off. Costco has them 2 for $67 and Lowes has them for $39 ea (then you find one of the MANY coupons for Lowes like $10 off a $25 purchase.. exc).
The technology behind the units is a little questionable and I was not able to find links to the documented evidence of their effectiveness. They claim Harvard did test this product.. hope thats true but I would like to see the source of that claim posted somewhere. UV-C bulbs have been around for a long time, but for some reason they are just now showing up in this kind of a product with no real description as to why that is.
The bulbs only last one year and I cant find replacements locally (yet) so minus one star for that.. otherwise.. good job. Hope its for real. I went back to Lowes today to get another one and they were sold out.
UPDATE: Year and a half later, first bulb replacement (should have been done at the one year mark.. I guess). I took the opportunity to use a duster can and blow out all the dust that had built up in the units over 18 months of continuous use. Wiped down the outsides with Windex. Back in business. |

| I purchased the Germ Guardian GG-1000 Air Sanitizer because of a newspaper article and user reviews recommending it for odor control. My initial skepticism quickly disappeared as it has effectively controlled persistent odors in both a small bathroom and the adjoining bedroom, which is larger than the product's stated capacity. The only downside is the noise, but closing the bathroom door at night eliminates that problem. |

| This is our second air sanitizer. We like to bring one with us on vacations to help the air quality in hotel rooms. Since we have allergies, we keep this one in our living room and another in our bedroom. They are very handy but you can certainly hear them like a small vacuum cleaner. I haven't noticed a decrease in dust or anything, but the air does seem to smell better. |

| After 2 months, the portable one is working fine. The fan is noisy, but does not bother anyone. At night in the bedroom, it is white noise. The canister Germ Guardian's fan is variable speed, and at low speed, that fan is quiet. This fan is one speed. I give it 4 Stars because i have no idea how well it is sanitizing the air. We need to see lab reports on its effectiveness. |

| Well, I have only owned this for a day so I can't report on it's proficiency.I'm not using it to reduce odor from a litter box or diaper pail. I just bought it to reduce germs in the air, so how do I know it's working? I've been skeptic for a while, but I spotted one at Babies R Us today for only $12.98. That's the best price I've seen, so I figured I'd give it a try. |

| The Germ Guardian GG-1000 UV-C Sanitizer seems to work fine but there's really no way of knowing for sure. Air is not something you can see or measure in any conventional way. This product seems to work like a little fan but omits a very loud sound that can be heard in adjoining rooms. All one can do is have faith that it does what it claims. |

i'm still on the fence w/ this product, but the husband likes it. we bought it while on stay-cation in a stinky condo. too noisy for the bedroom. did not work on the foul odors in there, but we brought it home anyway because it was affordable, and we wanted to give it a fair chance.
we keep it near the stairs (kind of below them) by a bathroom, the 'pantry' and the back door. the musty, funky, moldy smell is GONE from there now, and it gives a nice light to the dark walkway, but i hear it when i'm nearby and it is annoying. a high-pitched hum... |

| I bought 2 of these as part of the gold box deals. The description says "whisper quiet" but it sounds like you have a floor fan in the room. We decided to put it in our bedroom, but it was too loud so we put it in the master bath (even then I could hear it). I guess I'm used to the Air-O-Swiss ultrasonic humidifier which made NO NOISE whatsoever, and we also place the humidifier in the master bath which is adjacent to our bedroom. I'm not sure if the bedroom/bathroom smells better or is cleaner, but it was an interesting gadget to try out. |

I've had two of these. The first one lasted about 1 1/2 years and then the bulb burnt out. I bought the second one because it was half price (the retail price on this is $50 at Bed, Bath and Beyond - I don't know where they get the $70 price from).
I can't tell if this actually does anything, though. It has a weak fan that pulls a minor amount of air through it to be "sanitized" - maybe over the course of a week it circulates the air in your bathroom or closet once? twice? There is no noticeable lessening of mold or cleaner air. |

but thats just me. The unit is too small to do any considerable good. Even if it was biggest and flowed more air, I dont really have much faith in purifiers. The best solution is to open your windows and ventilate your homes with fresh air. There's no replacement for mother nature.
I didnt buy the unit, we have it here at the office and I hear it whirring away from 100ft away. Its noisy and does not really eliminate do much of anything. Again, this is just my opinion... :-(
