| I like this humidifier because you can get your whole hand into the tank to wipe off any mold that accumulates. My previous humidifier had a tank with a tiny hole, so once mold got in there the whole thing had to be thrown in the garbage. |

| This is a wonderful product. We run it every night and love it. One tank lasts about three nights. Easy to fill tank. Easy to figure out how to work--definitely user friendly. I'm a huge believer that this product helps to keep us from getting sick. The only problem I had was in the beginning I placed it on a folded towel and the humidifier would cut off after about an hour or so. I tried placing only one thickness of towel and it worked perfectly. I figure it was not level on the folded towel, therefore, automatically cutting off. The instructions didn't say anything about this. Product cleans itself which is an extra plus. |

| I have had many humidifiers in recent years and this is by far the best that we have purchased. Works great in small rooms. I have three children and I bought one for each of their rooms. They have been able to sleep much better and the humidity level is much nicer in their rooms now. I highly recommend this product. |

| This is perfect for my son's room. I agree with the other reviews that the warm mist setting really isn't warm. I am very happy with the product. It keeps his room perfectly humid and is really helping keep his congestion minimized. He is much healthier for it. There is virtually no cleaning involved and I love the fact that there are no filters to change! I highly recommend this product for your (child's) room. |

| Used for a month. Absolutely love the silent running of this humidifier! Have not noticed any build up of mineral deposits or mold or other bad elements. Manual says not to leave it running for extended periods of time and I leave mine running near 24/7, so time will tell whether this machine runs for more than the warranty period. So far, am extremely satisfied with this humidifier ! |

| By far the BEST! I have 2 year old triplets and use humidifier in winter and whenever they get sick. I tried at least 3 different humidifiers in the past. I found filters very expensive and had a lot of problems with mildew and cleaning difficulty with other units. I have had this one for 2 months now and LOVE IT! It is so easy to clean, easy to use and QUIET! It's wonderful. I like the light on it, it works well for a night light. I didn't need all the bells and whistles that came on the 3000 model and this just works perfect for us. I cannot say enough good things about this humidifier. Look nowhere else! |

This is my first review and I feel like I had to write it because I love this product :) It's super quiet, easy to refill, no filter worries and looks great. It's really unobtrusive decoratively and noise-wise. It doesn't have a humidity sensor, but I would recommend getting one so you can be sure you achieve the level that you wish. I've read other reviews re refilling and the water container being awkward, but I don't find it to be a big deal (the top is rounded so you can't rest it down while refilling). It has a handle that makes lifting the container up and out super easy.
I've used a lot of humidifiers in my day and this is the best one I've found. |
Love it!

| Purchased the Germ Guardian Humidifier in December 2009. Delivery was very prompt and we have been using since delivery. Operation is relatively quiet. The unit significantly increased the humidity level in the house and it is much more comfortable even with the furnace running quite often during the winter months. The unit requires minimum maintenance as I clean the unit weekly with the supplied brush. The tank requires refilling about once a day depending on the humidity level setting; the unit has been running almost constantly since it was put in service. Very pleased with the purchase. |

Well-Built Ultrasonic Humidifier. But for Small Rooms Only.
|
| Review Date: February 9, 2007 |
| Reviewer: mirasreviews, McLean, VA USA |
The Germ Guardian H-2000 is the best ultrasonic humidifier I've seen in a decade. But that only means that it works. The humidifier is well-crafted but thoughtlessly designed. I was pleased with a couple of ultrasonics that I had years ago. When their motors eventually died and I needed replacements, I found that ultrasonic humidifiers had all but disappeared from the market by the mid-1990s. So I bought evaporative humidifiers instead. The trouble with evaporatives is that they require a wick, which molds easily and pervasively and must be replaced at least every two weeks. That's expensive. It costs me $150 per year to run each of my evaporative humidifiers. I'd rather have ultrasonics, which are less prone to mold, less expensive to operate, and quieter. When ultrasonic humidifiers reappeared on the market a few years ago, I bought some....and returned them all. They broke within weeks and left puddles on the floor.
This brings me to the Germ Guardian H-2000. If you want an ultrasonic humidifier that isn't fit for the trash, you have to pay more than $100. This H-2000 seems to be well-made. Happily, you can set it directly on the floor if you like. I have run it for days sitting on hardwood, and the floor is not even damp. There are little compartments for storing the power cord and for the air filter. A small brush is provided for cleaning the inside of the unit, though I don't know what use it would be. The humidifier barely makes a sound. The controls are straightforward. You choose cool or warm mist, then turn the humidity dial to the level of output you desire. A blue LED lights when the power is on, and a red LED indicates when the tank needs refilling. I've never had any trouble with white dust from this humidifier.
On the downside, the 1.4 gallon tank has a handle only on top, so it is difficult to balance the tank to fill it from the bottom. It's also rounded on top, so you can't set the tank down to fill it either. Remember the days when all humidifier tanks were flat on both ends and had a handle on each for ease of filling? No more. Usually ultrasonic humidifiers are easy to clean if they should mold, because all the innards are exposed. But the H-2000 has an optional warm mist, so water passes through a concealed channel as it goes from the tank to the vibrating disc, where it is presumably exposed to heating coils. You could run ammonia through the channel to kill mold, but there would be no way to remove slime. The tank is infused with silver nanoparticles to retard microbe growth, but machine's body isn't. Strange, because mold growth in humidifiers never starts in the tank. The on/off knob would benefit from some ridges. It's so smooth that I can't grip it unless my hands are perfectly dry.
The Germ Guardian H-2000 takes 30 hours to empty the 1.4 gallon tank with the humidifier set on its highest output. That's an output of 0.047 gallons of water per hour. My evaporative humidifiers put 0.083 gallons per hour into the air, nearly twice as much. For this reason, the H-2000 is best suited to a small bedroom, placed close to the bed. In the "warm" mode, the water is heated to 80 degrees F. The mist is warm in the base, the column (spout guide), and where it comes out of the spout. But by the time it gets a couple of inches from the machine, the mist is cool. So I see little point in the warm mist feature. If you want an ultrasonic humidifier, I won't try to dissuade you from this one. In spite of its deficiencies, it's the best one I've found in recent years. But it's only suitable for small rooms. |

This humidifier does a fine job for a medium size bedroom. It is quiet, a big plus. A little cumbersome to refill, but you soon get the nack of how to do it.
I just cleaned it out after having run a few weeks. Some gook, not too bad. Use a paper towel to get into little corners.
I recommended it to a friend, but the larger model that holds more water, i.e. less frequent refilling. |

| This product works well and I found most of the comments made in the other reviews to be true for me as well. Only one person had written that s/he noticed a white dust gathering on the surface of his furniture so I discounted it. However, after a couple days of using my humidifier full-time, I also got the white dust build-up. When the sun came in my windows, I could even see a haziness in the air, that was also connected. On a hunch I tried using distilled water and the problem immediately went away - no more white dust. Before that, I'd been using water filtered through a Brita unit. I've decided spending a dollar a week on a gallon of distilled water is acceptable so I'm keeping the unit since everything else about it - the look, the quietness, the effectiveness - is what I wanted. |

| First, let me say that mirasreviews review was extremely accurate. With that said, I give this machine 3 stars because there is no warm mist. As already mentioned, by the time the mist is one inch away from the machine it is cold, so, what's the point? Basically, this is a cold mist machine, and you should know that before you buy it. If you have anything within a foot of the spray, it will get soaked, especially if if you have selected the max setting. The directional spray is pretty good, however, I find it works best if the machine is a couple of feet off of the ground. It does not seem to force the humidified air far enough, so I set it on a table, and that does the trick. So far, we have not had any puddles or leaks of any kind. It is very quiet. Water capacity is good at 1.4 gallons, and does run for a long time if it is not on its maximum setting. We bought this because my daughter has croup and our pediatrician recommended trying a dehumidifier. We bought this one without much recommendation, mostly because the others (evaporative) we had broke. We have not had to give our daughter any of the steroid the doctor had prescribed, and she seems to be getting better (though we also let the steam build up with a hot shower running, and stay with her in there for 10-20 minutes). I do think this machine helps. My main reasons for only three stars are the lack of a true warm mist and the price. Oh, I should also note that it starts right away, no waiting. If I could, I would give it 3.5 stars. Again, I have to agree with another review, this is probably the best out there. I am satisfied (I have not been able to say that about other brands), however, I am not thrilled. |
Worked pretty well for about 2 years

| Have had this for about 2 years and a month now, and it worked pretty well for the first 2 years, but lately, when I look at it, it doesn't really seem that vapor is coming out, and when I give it a kick, it resumes. The pro's on this is that you don't have to refill everyday, but that also means that it's not putting out all that much water, which is the purpose of a humidifier. I also find it hard to clean. I live in NYC and due to the type of water we have here, a brownish mineral residue builds up in the base and a little in the tank. It's somewhat a pain in the butt to clean it. Also, the tank is pretty heavy when full so I hate refilling it and make my husband do it. If you are not strong, I recommend going with a smaller humidifier that you simply fill up every night with a smaller tank. However, friends of mine have had the same one for longer than I have, and are still happy with theirs, so this is just my opinion. It's not a bad product. All of them have to be cleaned, it's just a pain. |
The bad and good about this item

I was looking for a humidifier and since the brand that I chose was not available I decided to try this one.
The bad:
1) The water tank is not very comfortable to fill up.
2) The most I am concerned about is the warning in bold in the manual. And it reads as follows: "The cords, wires, and/or cables supplied with this product contains chemicals including lead or lead compounds known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects... Wash hands after using." Since when to touch a cord can cause cancer?? I would not buy it if it would be known up front and never for a children's room - they touch everything.
3) The warm mist is not working.
The good:
1) it is running very quiet
2) it distributes the humidity in a short time, without using full force.
I was wondering if wearing robber gloves would protect from the chemicals described in the warning. Does somebody know the answer?

Humidifies well, but beware of mold on carpeted floors.

I bought this when my wife was very sick, as our old humidifier wasn't doing the job. This thing sure does... perhaps too well.
The first night we used it on 75%, and it felt nice in our room (a small bedroom - about 15' x 15'. However, when we woke up, the floor near it was soaking wet. Fair enough, we thought, we had it too high. Tried again at 50%, still soaking wet. Too close to the ground, maybe? We put it on a table in our room, about 2.5 feet off the ground, and put it at 75%. Still soaked. 50% elevated? Still soaked. 25%? Not quite soaked, but still damp, and the humidity in the room was noticeably less than before. At that point, there is little point to even having it on, as it was not putting out enough humidity to get the job done without absolutely soaking the floor. After 7 days of that we decided to discontinue use for the time being. That's when we noticed the smell...
Our carpet had begun to mold where it was getting soaked. We had to rent a professional carpet shampooer to get rid of the mold and the smell.
So beware if you plan on using this in a carpeted room, but it does do a very good job at humidifying... perhaps too good? |

No noise and I slept well that night. The next night I turned the machine on and a loud annoying buzzing sound resounded. I dont understand why because I read the manual first and followed the instructions to the letter.
I have been trying to reach Germ Guardian Customer Service all day without success. The prompt tells me to leave a message, but the message box is full. I have a feeling that I am going to have a problem with this machine and would not recommend this product.
I can not return it because I had to destroy the box to get the humidifier out of the box, so I am stuck. |

| From the first use, it leaked a little around the bottom part of the tank when I flipped it to put in the base. The leaking would stop after a minute. I still used it and it worked great for the first 3 weeks (I ran it from 8pm until 6 am) every night. It's quiet and the steam setting works nicely. The blue light went out on it after two weeks. There were also 2 occassions where it stopped working altogether. I went to turn it on in the evening, it would come on, but no steam. The next morning it worked fine, and ran for another week and then the same problem and yes, it was cleaned out, twice. I decided to take it back while the store I purchased it from will still take the 30 day return. It's too bad, the idea is nice, the warm and cool mist worked, the setting to change the amount of steam to come out works great, it's very quiet and it had no sediment build up from the water. The other thing I didn't like about it is that is diffucult to fill the tank because of the shape, you have to hold it the entire time, a bit awkward. |

Just received product today. Filled up container, plugged in and....nothing. There seems to be some problem with the tank allowing water to pass into the motor parts so it always says that tank is empty. Quite frustrating. Was able to get it to work and it is very silent. Great for bedroom.....only if it worked!
Also the power dial doesnt have any grip so if your hands are slightly wet you wont be able to turn it on!

I bought this humidifier with the germ guardian uvc air sanitizer, I must admit being disappointed with both. With all the cutting edge technology built-in to this thing, you would expect it to not soak the floor. The product is alright but even on the lowest setting, I could not get it to keep the floor dry.
The first night we turned it on low and went to bed, to our dismay when we woke up the entire floor was soaked (puddles)! It's a good thing we have hardwood floors in our house but if you have carpet, forget about this humidifier. You will regret buying this product. The workaround for me is I place a large towel under and around the humidifier. Not the most convenient, and like the UVC air sanitizer I bought from Germ Guardian, I may return both. |

I have asthma and allergies and have been looking high and low for a humidifier that does not breed mold, as so many of them do. So I splurged on this expensive digital model. I also wanted a reliable humidifier for my toddler's room, in order to prevent wintertime coughs and colds.
Unfortunately, this humidifier is a great disappointment. It does not live up to its claims of being mold-free; quite to the contrary, the long air passage tube grew reddish mold very quickly. Water also inexplicably collects in the bottom white basin. I called the company to resolve the numerous problems with the humidifier, yet they did not give me satisfactory explanations (e.g., they told me that the water collection is normal, yet why should water collect in the basin of the humidifier? Isn't that a prescription for mold growth?) Plus, as a previous poster noted, the screw holding one of the major components quickly rusted. I wish I had not spent so much money on this humidifier. I have returned to using the Vicks Warm Mist humidifier, which I used last winter and really liked, and only costs around $40. |

| I purchased this as a gift for a friend and unfortunately it failed in less than one month. The unit was properly used and maintained and it just stopped dead. We tried to contact Germ Guardian directly - a challenge since they rarely answer the customer support line. When we were able to reach them, they claimed that we should clean the unit with vinegar and that it would be fine. This seemed odd for a machine that had been used for 2 weeks max, but we did this. No success. This machine is a lemon, and the manufacturer does not stand behind it |

I bought this unit after going through a humidifer every year or two.
I read the reviews carefully and agree with the couple of negative points I knew going in but was ok with (the blue light IS very bright in a dark room. The handle IS clumsily located, making it hard to fill the tank. The warm mist setting IS an exaggeration. The mist that comes out is either very cool or simply cool. Never warm. (What isn't really ok is that, for my taste, the air did not get humid enough on the cool mist setting - even on high. We had to turn it all the way on high, on the (alleged) warm setting in order to get relief from the dry air.)
I also admit - we have a very old house with very dry winter air so we run a humidifier constantly in the winter. I thought "be green. Get a sturdier unit. Spend a little more money but avoid replacing every year'. Ha. This unit lasted 4 weeks. We followed directions, cleaned appropriately, treated gently and still. I was a little surprised that the casing was only marginally more robustly built. But ok - if it works well. It's really the internal parts that need to be high quality.
But after about 3 weeks the blue light went out entirely. A week later the unit only makes vapor intermittently. The water spouts up but whatever process turns it into vapor works for a few minutes and then stops working. If you lift the tank and put it down gently it makes vapor for another 10 minutes, then quits again. I'm very dismayed that I spent 3x the money I normally spend and got 1/3 the time out of it that I usually get. I'm going back to the cheap Vick's type models. I throw one away each year, but at least I won't be paying through the nose for the privilege.
Very Disappointed! |
