| This detergent works very well. It has a pleasant oder and has a very low "suds effect", which allows the rug machine to work as designed without premature filling of the recovery tank. This is the detergent designed exclusively for the Hoover SteamVac which is by far the best rug cleaner available on the market. So stick with the Hoover name. I bought this for $19.95 and free shipping from Amazon for a 128oz size bottle which will give me around 26 refils. To put it another way, that's 26 gallons of carpet cleaning solution. That will clean a lot of carpets with just one bottle! ALso, I saw it at Walmart for $5. less-not a bad deal, but you will probably use that much in gas and time spent getting it there. |

I purchased this detergent to go along with my Hoover Steamvac All Terrain. The detergent has a pleasant smell, and the carpet was spotless once I was done steamcleaning. I followed the manufacturer's instructions and also pretreated spots with Hoover's spray spot and stain remover.
My only complaint about this detergent is that it is so pricey, not just through Amazon (which is usually the cheapest), but in general. I am going to be using a LOT of this stuff. Thanks to a tip that someone else wrote in their review, I'll be watching for the "buy 2, get one free" promotion from Amazon in the future. |

| We purchased when we could get the 4 for 3 offer...What a deal. The item is not only cost efficient, but it works so well. Smells great but the smell goes away rather quickly - within a day or so. I think it does take stains out fairly well and works well with our Hoover Steamvac. Not much residue left over after pick up but we also do a clean rinse when done just to make sure nothing is left behind. |

I do my champagne-colored carpets frequently. Since I live in the country, a variety of interesting things are tracked in. Although the carpets look great after vacuuming, I am always surprised at how much underlying dirt this product pulls out.
Of all the detergents by Hoover this seems to do the best job and quickly.
Of course, I am delighted with the huge bottle. Less ordering or last
minute trips to stores that stock it is always welcome.
This is the most pleasant scent of all the Hoover detergents,
but that is an individual opinion. |

| This worked great. Low foam so it didn't leave the carpet feeling like there was a residue like some cleaners I've used. (assuming you use the recommended amount per use). The smell was not overpowering or strangely unpleasant like some rug cleaning solutions I've used either. It's a light scent that just makes the house smell fresh and clean. It pulled up some hard to clean stains, which is partly attributed to my rug cleaner, but brightened up the dull, high-traffic areas. |

I have used this detergent for several months with my Hoover Steamvac and generally like it quite a bit. It is relatively poor at doing much with stains, particularly those that have been in the carpet for a long time (but then again, aren't they all poor at that?), but for traffic lanes where there is a lot of dirt and/or grease, if you take your time and go over it a few times, it is a very good product. I will say that sometimes you have to give it a little time too. I have broken down seemingly impossibly dark areas with this shampoo, although the first pass seemed to do very little, and quickly going over it seemed to only work slowly. So, if all else fails let the water/detergent sit on the area for a little while while you work on another area and then go over it again and see if that helps. It has for me in some instances
There are a couple of things that make me give it a four instead of three, which I would give it based on its cleaning ability. The first is the smell. It is very pleasant and I have had several positive comments on how the carpets smelled after using it. Outside of Hoover's Pet Formula Pet Detergent, this is best smelling detergent I have ever used, and I have worked with many. The other "plus" is that it is easy to remove from the carpet. After I use the detergent, I do at least one "rinse" application where I just use water to get up the residue of chemicals I left behind. With this detergent, it comes up very easily and does not require repeated applications, whereas with many others you must do the same areas many, many times to get all the residue from the carpet.
One last area I want to bring up is "browning". Some chemicals used on carpets have an unpleasant tendency to turn your carpet brown as the chemicals dry on the carpet. To give you an example, I did a carpet and it was quite clean, with few stains remaining. A few days later, I had monstrous brown stains in a few areas on the carpet. I had used several stain removers to help with the original spots, and these were apparently the cause. So, I went over it again with water to remove the browning, but once again they came back when it dried, seemingly with almost the same intensity. Intuitively, I disliked adding more residue by using the detergent, but I figured water was not working so I had nothing to lose(and as I mentioned, this detergent has no residue problem). I used this detergent and apparently it helped remove the other chemicals more effectively and lessened the browning problem I was having. Also, this chemical does not cause browning at all. It was some other chemical I used for the stains (I used too many to know which one, as the initial stains were quite stubborn).
The only reason I am not giving this a five is because I do not want to give the impression that this is some kind of super cleaner and give false expectations. It does work pretty well, and is a very agreeable shampoo to work with, both in odor and ease in which it comes out of the carpet. It also is not harsh on skin if you get some on you. Overall I like it very much and will continue to purchase it as I need it. I probably would even if it did not clean at all, it smells so good. |

I had previously rented cleaners from Lowe's and Giant and bought whatever detergent went with the machine. My carpets were always pretty clean after using the rented units, but my new Hoover and this detergent definitely got them cleaner. The spots that had been in the carpet for years even came out. It also got out the pet odor from the two dogs in the house without creating a wet dog smell while the carpet was damp, as the rented unit and detergent had done. |

| Bright yellow bile is the worst stain to get out of a carpet. However, after scrubbing with the smaller hand shampooer, and using this cleaner full strength, it finally came out. Harder than I though it would be, but worth the effort. |

We bought this to use in our Bissell Spotbot and we were not disappointed.
If you are looking for this to remove bird droppings from medium-grade or low-grade carpet, you'll need to clean the same spot 3 different times. Since it wasn't designed to do this job, we can't really hold anything against it for this. Get some Poop Off and mix it into your solution - then it works great.
Doesn't get 5* because the two 128-ounce packs we have bought (one off Amazon and one from a store) both have leaky lids which means you invariable get some on your hands when you pull it out from under the sink. Yuk. |
