Product Description

The Theratherm Digital Moist Heating Pad, as opposed to dry forms of heat, draws moisture directly from the air. There is no water to add, no water to boil, no dripping packs and no towels to prepare. Moisture is drawn from the humidity in the air and retained in a specially designed 100% cotton cover. When the hot pack is turned on, the retained moisture is rapidly heated by high-grade ceramics, forcing the moisture out of the flannel cover onto the patient's skin, allowing deeper penetration of heat into the bodys tissue. The moisture acts only as a means to transmit heat more deeply into the tissue, so only a small amount is needed. TheraTherm, unlike all competitive products on the market, has a digital hand control allowing the operator to program the following parameters: treatment temperature, treatment time and on/off. Competitive units, including Thermophore, require the operator to make continual contact with a single-loaded switch to generate and maintain heat from the pad. This is positioned as a safety feature. TheraTherm has a conventional on/off control switch. Lockout mode protects against accidental changing of the control settings.

Product Details

  • The Shoulder/Neck model is designed with a "U" shaped cutout that fits like a collar around your neck to more effectively deliver soothing moist heat to your shoulders and neck
  • Uses a conventional switch. Competitive products require you to make constant contact with their switch
  • Therapeutic treatment temperature between 88 degrees and 166 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Digital hand control allows operator to program and monitor temperature and treatment time
  • Automatic time control (1 - 60 min. timer) with auto shut off

Best Heating Pad EVER

Review Date: September 1, 2005
Reviewer: Mr. Toad,
I purchased this pad because it was the only one that was compared in reviews in various places to professional therapeutic oven-heated pads.

The reviews were not exaggerating. I don't entirely understand how this pad does what it does, but the deep moist heat penetration is exactly what I have experienced from heated pads at the therapist. Nearly every time I have used this pad it has relaxed a nasty trouble spot within 20 minutes. My VERY WORST back spasm required two 30 minute sessions. Phenomenal.

The controls are wonderfully logical and idiot proof, the workmanship and design first-rate. AND IT WORKS.

No more buying semi-effective pads from department stores, pads that never really get the job done and fail in a year or so.

This is the ultimate pad, and I've tried quite a few.

I bought a Theratherm Moist Heat Pack for my wife, at the recommendation of a Physical Therapist friend, for her back pain. When it says "Moist Heat", it really means it. She can set it for a 30 minute session, and it really delivers moist heat, just like the moist heat packs in a Physical Therapy or Chiropractor's clinic. The moist heat really sooths her back pain, and now we have two! I had to get my own.
Simply the best!

Reviewer: Oldsmartool,
I have had major back problems for several years. So, needless to say, I know all about lower back pain.

I have tried other heating pads, some with dreadful results- Burns and blisters from pads that cook your skin.

The TheraTherm Digital Moist Heating Pad is the best heating pad I have ever experienced. The temperature control lets you raise the temperature two degrees at a time, as opposed to a pad which only has a low, medium or high setting. A couple degrees can be the difference between too cold and medium-well done!

The timer prevents overexposure if you happen to fall asleep, lose track of time or happen to walk away and leave it on. It can be set at up to sixty minutes, and then it turns itself off. That is a wonderful safety feature!

I like this heating pad so well, not only do I have one at home for "my spot" on the couch, I bought a second one for my desk chair at work.

This could possibly be one of the best investments I have ever made. I am 100% pleased with this product!

best pad for at-home use

We purchased one of these pads for my dad, who has osteoarthritis & phlebitis. It gave him relief that ordinary heating pad plus moist towel did not offer and allowed him to discontinue using narcotic painkillers on a regular basis. It gives a professional-type "hot pack" relief with the added ability to control the temperature to exactly what is comfortable--not just a low-med-high choice, but actual thermometer setting. (114 (F) was what I found comfortable in testing it; my dad likes the default setting of 126 (F) better). The cord could be a bit longer, as it is only 5-6 ft, but definitely worth the expense for anyone with chronic pain or recovering from injury--or just to relax after a hard day. We're getting a second one just for us.

I was in a terrible car accident in February.
I'm still in physical therapy, and was told that I need to find a moist heating pad for my back and neck pain.
I originally bought a typical pad for less than $20 from Target. Those are the ones where you wet the sponge inside and plug it in.
In the meantime I was anxiously awaiting delivery of this pad, and it's INCREDIBLE!
It produces moisture on its own, and goes up to about 166 degrees, though the default is 126 degrees for 30 minutes.
It's wonderful!
I'd recommend this to anyone. fantastic product. Worth every penny!

I first used this product when I started physical therapy for muscle strain in my back.
My hour-long program is stretching or pilates for 1/2 hour, then application of the TheraTherm 14x27 pad for the next 1/2 hour.
The first time I used it, I thought I'd died and gone to heaven!!
You can self-program the heat intensity, and it is pre-set to shut off after 30 minutes.
Now I use it daily in conjunction with stretching and relaxation.
I like the pad, and it is comfortable, wellmade and has become a family favorite: my 81 year old mother uses it on her back, my daughter for menstrual cramps.
The cover is soft flannel and completely washable.
For what the other brands are charging, I'm very happy with this item.
I'm sure my local hospital's Physical Therapy program wouldn't use an item that is problematic, and so I tried it. I hope you do, too!
This will most certainly be a Christmas item for some of my extended family. I think they will enjoy having their own!

Having GERD I often suffer from stomach discomfort. I've tried every heating pad out there to find one warm enough to really help. TheraTherm has it all. Digitally monitored and user controlled temperature is a wonderful idea. If it's not quite warm enough at a certain temperature, I can raise it with the touch of a button. User controlled moist heat! What a concept. It's great. I love it!

My husband suffers from degenerative disc disease and 2 failed spinal surgeries. We have purchased approximately 12 heating pads in the past 2 years. This is the first heating pad that has provided the deep heat his pain requires without burning out - or burning his skin. Definitely worth the $$ - I even purchased one for my father who suffers from arthritis.

I absolutely love this product. I have been struggling for four years to maintain a square heating pad around my neck, not easy, comfortable, OR relaxing. This product takes that away, allows me to sit comfortably and not worry about moving around. In fact I can walk around with it on my back if I want to, because once it gets hot it stays warm for several minutes. Furthermore, the fact that I can set a timer on it is fantastic. Then I can relax even more, perhaps fall asleep and know that it is not going to burn me or catch on fire. I use this almost every night after icing. It is awesome and I would highly recomment this product to anyone with neck, upper back or shoulder pain.
Great!

I'm very happy with the size of this heating pad. And it produces very affective moist heat. I had formally bought another pad from the drug store, and it was terrible. There is absolutley no comparison. I'm so glad I found this! I have fibromyalgia and it's a daily struggle, and this gives me relief when I use it. Worth every penny. Also, it does say not to lay on it, but if you have fibro, you know that there are many places you need to treat. So I have layed on it, and it works wonders when I'm trying to relax in front of the tv on the couch. As there is simply no comfy position alot of the time, since I ache all over, and this really helps. I really recommend this product!!!

I had written a poor review previously, based only on the fact that it seemed to take forever for the heating pad to arrive after I ordered it. By the time I got it, I had no use for it and therefore couldn't rate the actual product.
Well, the company saw my review and wanted to make it right, so they refunded the expedited shipping I'd paid for, which was considerable. I appreciate customer service like that, especially when I didn't even have to "demand" it.
As luck - or whatever - would have it, I HAVE had a need for the heating pad this week. Dr. thinks I pulled a ligament in my back, I don't know. All I know is it killed me, so I pulled out my handy new product and gave it a test ride. I LOVE the size of it, it heated up a lot more satisfactorily than my tiny drugstore one I'd been using, and delivered a nice consistent heat. I also like the weight of it - resting on my other side and laying the pad across the injured part, it felt secure and comfortable. I like it has a digital read on the thermometer, as well as a timer and automatic shutoff.
(I'd actually burned my arm on my tiny drugstore model, whose pad inside the flannel covering was plastic - fell asleep with it on me and my arm must've rested on the plastic part accidentally - I think I gave myself a 2nd degree burn!... all better now tho.)
So, kudos to the company and the product. Highly recommend.

I received this heating pad after an injury. My first one wore out after a couple of years. I ordered a new and larger one and I couldn't have spent better money. The pad is nothing like I've been able to purchas at the drug store. There is weight and substance to this heating pad and it actually gets moist with adding water. I set the timer and the temp and I can relax and let it sooth me to sleep at night. I won't be without my Thera-Therm moist heating pad again.

After searching for a for a moist heating pad for about 2 weeks and returning 3 to stores i went online to look for one. And found the Theratherm Digital Moist Heating Pad. The pads I returned didn't get hot enough or were defective in some other way. I have chronic back pain and was instructed by the doctor to use a moist heating pad. Thank the Dear Lord I found this one! It heats to the chosen temperature and stays that way for the proscribed treatment time. It Is weighty and is nothing like the flimsy wannabees found in drug, department or even some medical supply stores i shopped in. I am completely sold on the Theratherm and would recommend it to anyone who needs one for home use. It is akin to those used in hospitals or physical therapy establishments. Oh, and it does provide moist heat without doing anything except plugging in and turning on!!
not just for the senior people!

I am in my 30s and I tend to have a lower back pain from the long hour desk work day to day. And, even if I work out and stretch my back and get massage every night, I still get up in the morning with the back pain.

This 14x27 pad gives a great coverage on your torso and soothe your muscles within 15-30min and I was so amazed. When I looked at this kind of products before, I thought it was really for seniors only but this is my bed buddy almost every night.

The coiled pad is quite heavy enough to sit on your body securely and has a washable flannel cover that keep the surface wet, which adds more latent heat.

The monitor pad has a tiny beeping sound that informs start/end and it is easy to maneuver.

The price is right for the product. I recommend it to any family just like other reviewers.
Fantastic!

This is an awesome moist heating pad! My wife and I have been using this, as well as their U-Shaped neck one, for 3 years now. It gets super hot, and with the digital control pad we can directly control the temperature level and the amount of time the product stays on (up to 60 mins).

I had a Thermophore first, before I got us the TheraTherms with digital controls -- Thermophore is also a really awesome heat pad. But the problem with the Thermophore is that you have to hold the lever down to keep it on. With the Thermophore I often zone out while watching TV and let go of the button, then suddenly realize 10 minutes later that the heat pad never got hot. However, with this Theratherm, I just set my temperature and time limits, and forget about it. Can even fall asleep with it on and it will turn itself off, it's great!

I am about to order a new 14x27 TheraTherm -- the one we had lasted 3 years and would probably last a lot longer if I hadn't stepped on the control pad and broke it the other day.

Reviewer: Paul A. Petersen,
This is a very good heat pad. I bought it to help the inflammatory arthritis in my neck and shoulders. It definitely helps me loosen up in the morning and aids with pain relief. A couple notes: the pad covers the lower neck and shoulders. It does not give coverage to the upper neck near the base of the skull. This is evident in the product photo (and doesn't influence my rating of the product), but I thought it would be worth pointing out. Also, it not as heavy as I had hoped it would be. But it's still heavier than any other heat pad I've used, so I'm okay with it. I would buy it again if I lost it or broke it.
Theratherm 14X18 heating pad- The best you will find

I have severe chronic back pain and require the use of a heating pad almost daily. I have purchased at least 6 different types of heating pads over the years. They are cheap plastic junk that you slip into a cloth cover. They DO NOT WORK and last for a few months at best. Then I found Theratherm, these are the best heating pad on the market today. There is another brand very similar to this one but they have this stupid switch you have to keep depressed in order to get heat. Very dumb idea. The theratherm pad is large, it can heat up to 166 degrees, it can heat for periods up to 1 hour, it is made of very high quality materials. I do burn out the control units in about a year to 2 years but I use it every day for at least 6 hours a day. Now if you add that up it is a lot of hours. This is my forth theratherm heating pad, 1 broken, 1 still in use (now my backup), my new one and 1 made for the neck and shoulders( this one is great also).
My only complaint would be it would be great if the control lit up.

If you need a heating pad and want the best one out there then do not hesitate, buy this. I know what I am talking about, there is no better heating pad.

I have been looking for a heating pad that would wrap around my neck and lay on my shoulders. I found this one and it works great. Only recommendation to the manufacturer would be to make the heat not exceed the setting. The heat goes about 10 degrees above my initial setting and then retreats back to my setting. Otherwise, it is great and the moisture feature is excellent. Much better than an ordinary heating pad. I am going to buy one for my mom, aunt and wife. I usually don't fill in these reviews but this product is so excellent, I thought I'd take the time in case someone else with arthritis is looking for a neck shoulder heating pad.

This electric neck wrap actually gets hot, unlike some other ones. I bought an electric neck wrap from a popular chain store and had to return it because it just didn't get hot enough. So then I searched the web and found this. You can choose your own temperature. And it actually covers a lot of area in the upper back, shoulders, and neck...unlike some other ones. I actually bought one for myself and one for a gift. I highly recommend this product!

This is an excellent heating pad. It gets truly hot. The controls allow for total user control of the temperature and length of the session. The cover on the pad is soft and removable for laundering. The heating pad itself is flexible enough to wrap around an arm or hand comfortably. It produces moist heat without addition of water. Construction of all parts is sturdy.

The first thing I noticed when opening the box was the substantial weight of the pad itself. This pad has substance and is well padded.

The control unit is very well made and does not feel like a light piece of plastic.

The "moist heat" is something new for me, and it works. I read the instructions "Do not lay ON the pad, lay the pad on you". Well, of course the first thing I did was lay directly on the pad to see what happened. The moisture from the "moist heat" built up quickly on my backside and now I can see why one wouldn't want to lay directly on the pad. Makes the body too sweaty very quickly. For my back, I layed on my side with my back against the pad instead on laying on top of the pad, which worked great for soothing back pain and not becoming too sweaty.

Overall, this heating pad is very well made and worth every penny. Gone are the days of using the old thin pads with the cheap plastic controller.

i highly recommend it to everyone who has muscle issues, also getting a massage twice a month helps, too..

I LOVE this heating pad. I decided to get a new heating pad and picked this one after reading the reviews. I am SO glad I did. It is large and heavy so it doesn't slide. This heating pad is what a heating pad was meant to be. It is better than any heating pad I have owned. My Mom came over and I let her use it. Now I have to buy a new one. She decided the one I had was her early Christmas present. =D
Heating Pad with Moist Heat

Review Date: February 6, 2010
Reviewer: Painting Cook, WPB, Florida
About 25 years...I had fallen asleep with my old heating pad on and
it burned me. My Doctor got after me to buy a Moist Heating Pad with the release lever that shuts down when you fall a sleep. I bought the Moist Meating Pad from TheraTherm with a release lever.
As I got older, it got harder for me to keep the lever pressed because
of Digital Neuropathy and Fibromyalgia.
I found that ThermaTherm came out with the 20 minute Auto-Shut off
heating pad which I quickly bought.
Then a few years ago, I saw this temperature control heating pad with 1 hour auto-shut off...which for me is the best so far. You can set the temperature to what you would like and the length of use. If it shuts off after an hour it still retains its settings. Just repress the green button and you're back with moist heat. :)
The size is a true size. Nothing like those cheap heating pads
that hardly heat and say King Size and would be...if you were a mouse.
The only drawback that I can see is the heft of it. Sometimes it
seems I can hardly pick it up when my fingers feel so numb.
Hubby bought me another one for Christmas so I could have one for
my feet for when I am at the desk so I don't have to move it from
place to place.
For me this TheraTherm product has been outstanding.
Plus if your doctor writes a prescription for it...you can put it on
your taxes. :)
What was the most aggravating was the price from Amazon.
The price on Amazon NOW is about $46 with free shipping.
When hubby bought it around Christmas from Amazon...he paid $65.
Right now it is a good buy with Amazon because if you buy it
from a Health and Fitness Store they do charge around $65 or more plus tax.
Hope this helps you. Hugzz to All! :)

I bought this product because I was having shoulder and forearm problems from "babying" my wrists from carpal tunnel. I was using two different heating pads that weren't really doing the trick. Also the electric cords were sometimes crossing and with the saftey mechanism turn itself off if the cords were on the heating elements.
I found this heating pad on Amazon.com, and it was exactly what I needed! I found only one company that had this neck cut-out, with the wire and thermostat in the front for me to watch. It's very convenient. I don't need an extension cord either.
It's easy to use...after I had to look at the directions in the beginning to find out why it was shutting off as soon as I plugged it in. ********You have to press the ON/OFF/Status button for 2 seconds!***** I didn't have to read the directions after that, for the other buttons were pretty much straight forward. It not full of featuritis and programitis which is common with most electronic gizmos these days.
I highly recommend this product to anyone that suffers any shoulder or upper back problems, you will not be disappointed.
Finally, a quality heating pad.

Great product, gets as hot as you need it. Much hotter then any others we have purchased in the past. Becareful with the cord, where it attaches to the unit, do not pull or tug on it. It can easily damage the connection. This is our second purchase of the same item for that reason. But the product is well worth another purchase. Can't live without it.

Reviewer: TS7,
My wife and I have used this heating pad about 100 times in the past year. We usually leave it at the default setting, 30 minutes of pretty susbstantial heat. The size of the pad makes it great for laying over your shoulders while sitting up, or laying your neck/upper back on it (through a shirt) while laying back in bed.

It switches off automatically after 30 minutes, and cools down fairly quickly. One last note, we went on vacation for a week, and we accidentally left it plugged in (not activated, just plugged in). The temperature changing electronic box that routes the power was a little warm, but otherwise fine.

We liked this product so much we bought one for a friend with some mid-back pain, and they already told us that they love it.

Highly recommended for decent pain relief and relaxing heat therapy.

Bought this for my wife who has fibromyalgia. Pad is heavy enough to give the same kind of coverage as that of the steam pads used by physical therapists. Controls are straightforward and accurate Pad made of high quality material and cover is removable and washable. Although timer with a maximum time of 60 minutes might be problematic for some people, it is a good safeguard to prevent burning. Yes, pad is a little pricey but well worth it for a quality product.

This is the fourth pad I have ordered. Use one in bed, one on the couch. Sadly the dog has eaten two cords so have used a total of four. All have been WONDERFUL. I am a chronic pain sufferer and use a heating pad almost continually. Have used other brands but none have been as good as this one!!

This heating pad is a godsend. Unlike square or rectangular pads, this one drapes over the shoulders like a shawl. It is flexible, but has enough weight to it for it to conform to your neck's curves and lay flat against the skin. The ceramic elements draw moisture from the air and release it again when heated; this moist heat is critical since dry heat draws moisture out of your muscles.

The control took a little getting used to, but now I am a pro at setting it for the time and temperature I need. Having a timer is great, especially when compared to heating pads which rely on the user holding in a switch to keep the unit heating. I'd rather read or use my laptop computer while enjoying the heat -- I want both my hands free.

The $50.33 price offered by this vendor is a reasonable one. I ordered in the wee hours Sunday night and my package arrived on Thursday. I ordered two so I could give one to my mom for Christmas. She loves hers, too!

My husband and I both have back problems and moist heat seems to ease the pain at times. We've always been told that moist heat is the best. I finally decided to "bite the bullet" and buy a new heating pad (ours was at least 20 years old). You do not have to add any water to this pad - it pulls moisture from the air; it is electric, and will shut off after 30 minutes. You can control the heat. This is worth the investment and we are very happy with it.

The thera therm digital heating pad is great. One can set the temp up to 160 degrees...and also set a timer on the pad to shut off after 5 to 60 minutes. It really heats down deep and relieves pain. The timer shuts off when treatment is done. I ususally use it for 20-30 minutes. It has really helped my arthritis.
The Best

Reviewer: Amber,
This is the best "hot pad" I've ever owned. I love that I can set the temperature and time. The automatic shut off is wonderful. Also, the heat it puts out seems different; more like a soft penetrating heat, than a burning hot (on the surface) heat. I don't know how to explain it but just a few minutes is all I need on this to make any aches go away. I don't have to worry about falling asleep and it staying on all night. I just set it and it turns itself off.

A bit on the downside, this is the second of these hot pads I've owned. The first I had for 3 years, worked great, used it alot and took it everywhere. Eventually, I think it got bent/mis-handled and then would not turn on anymore. I didn't give it a second thought and ordered a new one right away. The new one works fine.

This pad is weighty and large which is great for covering your entire back or wrapping around your leg. I'm not sure if the controls should lite up because mine don't and I wish they did but it's very easy to learn how the controls work. It's the best heating pad I've ever had. I have fibromyalgia and a severe scoliosis of my spine so I've spent alot of money on heating pads and physical therapists and this pad is the best thing I've had yet for relaxing my muscles. One other thing I love is how unbelievably soft it is. A very thick outer pad that is so so soft.

The moist heat in this heating pad really gets to the places that hurt. I like going to sleep with it on my back, and I don't have to worry about leaving it on because it turns off automatically. I also like to be able to set the temperature higher or lower depending on my pain level. Easy to operate. Recommended by my massage therapist. Great product, I use mine almost every day.

This product was reviewed in Kevin Kelly's Cool Tools [...] and received high marks. I'm using it on a "frozen' shoulder that I've had an bought the unit to help me. It works wonderfully, coming to heat an maintaining the heat rather accurately. It has a good temperature and timing control. Furthermore it will monitor the present temperature and elapsed time. Both time and temperature are adjustable with a control that has LCD viewer. All in all it's good and better than the units offered at Wal-Mart.

I have arthritis in my neck, and am facing surgery on my rotater cuff. When I found this, I was skeptical, because most heating pads are fairly hard to fit around the neck. This has been a really wonderful find. It is comfortable, has numerous heat settings, and gives a nice, deep heat sensation. I could sit with it all day long. A plus is that the electrical cord is longer than most. I am confident that it will be a big help after surgery also. I highly recommend it!

This heating pad is the best purchase I have ever made. It stays where you put it. It's weighted, substantial and the quality is unsurpassed. You can adjust the heat to whatever temperature works for you and lock it into place for every future use. It can't accidentally be changed. It delivers moist heat without adding any moisture to it at all. You can use the velcrose fastener in verticle positions if need be, but for my neck, upper back and shoulder problem there is no need to use the fastener at all.

Im in the medical field, I work in the radiology dept and I see neck and back pain stricken patients all day. I refuse to have surgery and I need all the help I can get with my neck and back pain. This heating pad is used daily and really helps me with the aches and pains. I have one for work and one for home.

It does have a variable temp that cycles for a one hour period. Then it shuts off automatically. You decide the max temp and max time , then it does the up and down of variable heat in the range you have chosen. It is a moist heat that does get very hot if u lay directly on it. For example, I only use a 130 degree heat when i lay it under my back when i lay in bed because otherwise it gets too hot. However, if I use it for my neck while sitting up on the sofa, I use a max temp of 166 degrees.

I purchased the shoulder pad w/cutout for my mother who suffers from fibromyalgia. She has raved about it since she first used it. Previously I bought the large pad for her to use for her back, but that wasn't as helpful because she can't lie on her stomach to place it on her back and though she tried to use it while sitting w/it behind her in her chair, it wasn't as effective as the shoulder one. And yes, the directions for the large one said not to sit or lay on it, but she was desperate for some relief - it provided some, but not nearly enough for the price paid.

This is a very uinque product which has no equal competitors. It is a bit quirky to get used to using it properly as upon initial heat-up it has a temperature over run past the set temperature of over 9 degrees F. Once it is in a steady state the temperature over runs stabilize at around 4 degrees F. You have to be very carefull to set the temperature at a setting which will not result in burning your skin during the initial temperature over run or, as a precaution, do not place it on your shoulders until the temperature has stabilized according to the digital readout.

I was in intense pain and desperate for relief, so I was very pleased the pad arrived so quickly.

As for the heating pad~it is awesome and my shoulders are delighted! The size is generous and the pad is heavy so it stays put! The only drawback is the temperature. The heat roars in and then after 10-15 minutes will cool down, then the cycle begins again. Personally, I prefer the temp to stay constant.

All in all, it's a wonderful product and I'll never part with mine.

You really need to decide what issues are important to you when purchasing a heating pad. This pad heats up real high, quickly.. and then cools down to a comfortable level. This is the "burst of heat" described in some reviews. Another consideration is that it is HEAVY...those porcelain dots add lots of weight. For someone with heavy duty arthritis...this could be an issue. The cord is nice and long, but the controller is dumb.... Do I need to "lock it" or just let it run??? Don't get why there is a "lock" feature at all. It also says NOT to lay on it....what the heck? What if you want to put it on your back and are unable to lay on your stomach? I still do it...lay on it I mean.
On the plus side...the size is WONDERFUL...and it really feels good. Despite the weight, I think this is a great pad and would recommend it highly. The only reason for 4 stars is the weight.

This heating pad is a big improvement on the old one I had been using. I got the large (14x27) size. It is heavy duty and looks like it will last awhile. I like the controls and it is easy to operate (I just use the default temperature setting as that is warm enough for me). I bought some velcro straps so I can wrap it on my leg (the part hurting the most at the moment). I am skeptical about the ability of what looks to be a flannel cover to "draw moisture from the air". I am pretty sure any moisture comes from my skin sweating in this hot blanket. Otherwise, I recommend this heating pad.

This heating pad delivers the most soothing, warmest heat out of any of the heating pads I have tried out there. For any situation that needs a heating pad I could certainly recommend this one.

The only problem I have experienced is that the heating pad works so well, and gets so warm that if you are not careful where the cord is placed it will actually start to rip away from the control pad. I don't consider myself a careless person and I had the cord back on this thing twice. However, I think the heating pad itself works so well that I am now on my third one.

I love my heat super hot and this product delivers. Heat is even over the entire product. Digital controls are easy to navigate. The downside was mentioned in the other reviews: no back lighting on the display so you have to have to turn the light on the change settings. Also, as mentioned, the heat temp does not seem to coincide with the actual temp but once you adapt to the sensitivity, it's easy to manage.

The fact that I needed and got this in a few days, I would recommend this to a prospective buyer.

You can control the temperature with the digital controller. On max - it gets very hot.

I did not rate it a "5" because the controls are not easy to see if you have eyesight problems. The LCD display is not lit, so it's hard to read. The buttons make a beep when you press them, but it would be nice if the beeps were different tones so that you could tell what button you were pressing. For example, power-on is the same beep as power-off.

All in all, I think it's the best heating pad I've used.

The pad really does a terrific job of heating up and holding set temperatures; however, I'm not thrilled with the fact that I'm not supposed to lean back into the pad. I don't understand this stipulation at all although I am abiding by it. When the pad is in use, I'm either sitting up (in a forward leaning position) or lying down with it on top of my back. So far so good and I would recommend this product to anyone experiencing slight tenderness in their back or to help alleviate simple back soreness.

I love this heating pad. I love the size as it covers larger areas of your body. I love the timer. You don't have to worry about making sure you turn it off. The reasons why I didn't give it a full five stars is that I wished the screen lit up so you could see the temperature controls at night. I also had a problem with a short in the cord, but Isokentics, the company it came from, is sending a replacement. Their customer service is great! That doesn't deter me from buying from them again. Expensive But Good

Review Date: April 27, 2009
Reviewer: JP Folkes, NYC, NY
I purchased this heating pad for my wife. She's particularly rough on things and had already burned through two other less expensive units. The other reviews which refer to the TheraTherm as being heavier than regular heating pads are accurate. Using this is not unlike being under one of those lead bibs that dentists now use when they are taking dental x-rays. It's not as heavy, but it certainly has more heft to it than any heating pads I've ever owned/used before. My wife likes the extra weight, as it tends to hold this unit in place when she's using it. She also likes the extra length, which covers more of her back, neck and shoulders.
Operation, however, is not exactly intuitive. My wife tends not to read instruction sheets/manuals, but had to before she could get this to work correctly for her. I tend to read instructions, but the first time I needed to use it, I couldn't find them and it took me awhile to get it started...still don't know if I was using it correctly. So, expect to spend a little time reading the instructions before using it. The keypad is not simple, like other heating pads we've owned previously.

Pluses - size, weight, heat and ability to set timer for length of use.
Minuses - unit does not heat up as quickly as our older pads did...takes a little more time to get up to temp, keypad complicated and not backlit for use in darker room.

Overall I'd say we're very pleased with this purchase. It is quite expensive compared to other units, but seems to be very well built and we expect it will outlast the previous two heating pads we bought. Only improvement, in our time of limited usage, would be to make the controls easier to operate and to add lighting to control to enable older users like ourselves to see screen in darkened rooms.
Excellent product with a misleading label

Review Date: November 14, 2009
Reviewer: MHW,
Apart from its misleading label, our 15 x 7 theratherm is the best heating pad we've ever owned. Regarding its label:

a) The word "moist" in "Digital Moist Heating Pad" refers to the "moisture ... drawn from the humidity in the air" of the room in which it is used, and so this product is really what the rest of the world calls a "dry" heating pad. (Philosophical questions: How "tall" is "short"? How "moist" is "dry"?)

b) Also, the word "digital" means only that this product uses numbers -- as distinct from such words as "high," medium," and "low" -- in the LCD display of its control unit.

Still, once one gets past its misleading label, this product works great.
Great pad, but with problems

Review Date: September 10, 2007
Reviewer: Ano,
In theory, this is a great heating pad. You get to set time and temp. What could be better? Well, all is not well.

First the good. The pad is well made, big, and the moist heat works well. How it works I don't know, but it is moist.

Now the bad. First, the temp sensing in this pad does not react as fast as the pad heats. Lets say you use the default temp of 124 degrees, which is a pretty low temp. Turn it on and it heats up. Problem is, the temp will get VERY hot before it registers 124 on the control. Eventually the reading will cross 124 and the heating will turn off. Within a few minutes the display will show the real pad temperature, about 145. Then it takes 10 to 15 minutes for it to cool down to 124 where it turns on again. By then your time is finished. If you do want to use the heating pad longer, you have to raise the temp to a reasonable 135 for a high enough heat. After about 30 minutes it regulates well, but it is torture getting there.

As a second negative, the display or buttons are NOT lighted. This is OK for simple pads where you can feel the controls, but not for this one that has a display.

Both issues are caused by bad design, and the first is serious enough where you could get burns until the pad sensor catches up, so DO NOT buy this for an elderly person who might not feel the heat.

So a great pad in concept, but needs to go back to the design department.

This heating pad apparently was not tried on before they mass marketed it - It is very cumbersome. Also, does not get hot, it gets warm but not hot. What is cool is you can unplug the cord from the pad and still wear the pad. What is not cool is the heat control switch is placed a few inches down from where it connects to the pad and it's weight pulls the pad to a skewed position. I recommend NOT buying this pad if you are looking for functional convenience. (Like wearing it at your computer at work.)
Best heating pad I have ever owned, needs better straps

Review Date: December 30, 2007
Reviewer: Lurfy's Ma, California
This pad has so many things going for it I hated to give it just 4 stars.

The shape is almost perfect for the neck and shoulder area. This area is difficult to treat with square pads. This one fits the shoulders and upper back very well. It is also good for the base of the neck, but not so good for the rest of the neck. It doesn't go high enough and it won't stay put.

The pad itself is the perfect weight. The heat feels great. The controls are excellent. The variable temperature control is very good.

The only downside is (1) the tiny Velcro strap is not much use. There is no way to keep it high on the neck. It needs a way to cinch it up much tighter.

I ended up using an Ace bandage, which is inconvenient. I may try to sew more Velcro on the cover. If it had a strap similar to the Elasto-Gel Cervical - Neck Collar with Velcro - Elasto Gel #CC102 - Lycra Cover, I would give it 5 stars.

01/03/08 Update: I sewed some extra velcro on the pad cover up closer to the neck. Now it stays in place and is snug. Not too attractive, though. It still does not go high enough up around the neck. This is billed as a shoulder/neck pad, but it is really mostly for the shoulders and upper back. Only the base of the neck gets any heat unless you cinch it up somehow.

I am now less happy with the controls. They are digital, which is great, but they have no memory. If you unplug it, which you must do if you have to move, your settings are lost. There are only 2 settings, but they are a little inconvenient to set. The temperature defaults to 126 F. This is not nearly hot enough for me. I need it at least 140 and often warmer than that. The time defaults to 30 minutes and can only go up to 60 minutes. In this respect, my old heating pad was better. It didn't turn off until I turned it off. This unit needs a small rechargable battery in the control that will remember the settings.

07/29/10 I am down-grading this unit to 3 stars. It's still a great heating pad, but way too inconvenient to use.
Needs way to control heating areas

The front flaps are too long and when you are trying to get heat to your shoulders and neck, your chest area cooks!!!

It should have a way to control different "sections." It is good for the back but the neck area doesn't get much heat because of the flat "u" shape it has.

If all you need is heating in the upper back and shoulders (and you have a big back where the flaps won't hang so low) then it's great.

Also it's confusing to use the timer portion of it.
doesnt stay at same temperature

the pad is good, it delivers moist heat like it says and does heat up fast, but i didnt like the fact that it cooled down before the set time and didnt stay at the temperature you set, but still its not bad, you just need to set a higher temperature than you want so it doesnt get too cool......
Lasted one month beyond warranty

The heat element stopped working after twelve and a half months. The warranty is good for one year so the company refused to do anything. Since it wasn't used very often and was carefully stored, this purchase was a big disappointment. Lots of bells and whistles, but apparently a poorly made product. Save your money.

this product delivers great moist heat. But if you use it often, the wires stop connecting and won't heat the elements. the timer will say error and you will need to keep playing with the wires to get a connection. I found this happened after one year of use, so bought another and a year later, the same thing happened. Great product but beware if you plan to use it a lot, you may need to purchase a new one every year.

My mother was having low back pain. We tried the microwaveable heat pads, our old heating pads (that was 20 years old) and pain killers. On the recommendation of a friend I purchased the moist heating pad.

From order to door it took us 4 days for the item to get here. The instructions were not complex and it took my mother about 5 minutes to read and understand it. It works as advertised and my mother's low back is sufficiently abated that she uses it infrequently (about once a week).

So it really works as advertised. It may be a bit pricey but highly recommended.
Faulty Thermostat

If you're looking for a low/medium heating pad that you can fall asleep on without fear of burning, this is the pad for you. If you're looking for fast-acting, therapeutic HIGH heat, buy a Thermophore instead. I have both heating pads and prefer the Thermophore by far. The drawback to the the Thermophore is that it has only one setting: on or off. You need to hold onto a small switch to keep the heating pad turned on. The benefit of this system is that you directly control the heat. When you press the button, the Thermophore quickly turns hot. When it feels too hot, you let go of the button and it begins to cool down. In a few minutes, you press the button and get a second burst of high heat. This is called infusion heat therapy and is said to be the most therapeutic kind of heat. In my experience, this is definitely true. I bought the Theratherm because I thought it would be simpler. It advertises the same maximum heat as the Thermaphore with the convenience of digital control (simply set it to the temperature you want, and then set the timer for up to 60 minutes.) The problem is that the thermostat isn't accurate. It reaches peak heat very quickly and automatically turns itself off, never feeling hot for more than a minute. (Instead, it emits a low-level heat for up to one hour). So, consider your goals and make your choice accordingly. For me, I choose the Thermaphore (which is also sold on Amazon.com).
Same old Same old

Reviewer: GregO,
I bought this heating pad for for chronic back pain after trying many other cheaper brands. Out of the box the heating pad feels good. Its heavy and appears well built. It has a digital readout which shows the current temperature and allows you set the desired temperature and treatment time.

The default starting temp. is 124. Which in a short period feels too hot. This maybe because once the heating pad reachs 124 it turns off. But the temperature readout shows 132-134. Once the unit shuts off when it reaches its target temperature, it cools off very quickly as far as the sensation of heat on your body. But the temperature readout will stay very high even though the pad feels cool. So you are continually turning the temperature of the pad up, so as to feel warmth. In 15 to 20 minutes you reach the maximum temperature that you can set the heating pad for, then the unit stops heating and your done.

I tried laying the unit out flat and walking away. After 15 minutes the temperature still reads 142. And this is the problem with this pad. What ever measures the temperture in this pad is so very very slow to react, that the unit is unable to deliver steady heat. In this regard its the "same old", no better in delivering heat than a $10 heating pad.

Also, forget about using the pad in a darkened room unless you take a flashlight. The digital read out has no backlight.

The pad does deliver on its promise of moist heat.
GREAT PAD BUT DOESN'T HOLD UP

Make no mistake, this is a great pad. In the past four years I have purchased three of these. As much as I like the pad, this time I purchased a Thermophore Arthritis pad because this last one only lasted 8 months before it began to fail. Apparently there must be a design flaw in that after using the pad for awhile, it seems to develop a short where the cord is fastened inside to the pad. I do use my pad every day so this gets a good workout but nevertheless, I feel that something that costs this much should last longer. The one prior to this one lasted exactly 14 months which was just after the warranty expired. This one is still under warranty but it is going to be expensive to ship back and forth for replacement and I am just not sure if the hassle is worth it.

When this is new, it is great because you can set the time/temperature for up to an hour. I fall asleep most nights with it on my lower back which is my problem area. The relief is incredible and like their advertisement says, no drug store pad or cheap heating pad is even in the same league with this one. The moist heat it produces provides immediate and lasting relief. However, they do need to correct this design flaw since the last two have failed the same way. When it begins to fail, the digital display on the control will flash on and off. It will then work for a few days and do it again. In a very short time it gets to the point that you have to push and pull the cord and actually fold the pad over to press down on the inside wiring to get it to heat up. If this had not happened so quickly to the last two of mine, I would think it was just an anomoly. But this last one failed even more quickly than the one before so I am convinced it is a design flaw.

**********Since writing this review, I decided to take my faulty pad apart and see if I could fix the problem. This involved removing the inner stitching across the bottom of the pad where the cord feeds out. Sure enough, there was a twisted wire way up inside which I straightened out and the pad is again working. Because I don't have much confidence in how long it will work, I simply fastened the bottom back up with 4 safety pins so that I can access the inside wires again if need be. Just make sure you unplug it before you start working on it! *******

Works great and then gets cold quickly

I wanted to love this heating pad, because when it is working and all heated up it is fantastic, but then it cools off. I find that I have to constantly play with the controls because it stays hot for a few minutes and then cools down, so then you have to fiddle with the controls again. I wish I had listened to the other reviews that had this complaint before purchasing, now I have to go through the hassle of returning...

At first I loved this heating pad because it just seems so well made..heavy...comfortable...smart thermostat...etc. Well, after going through 2 and having the same thing happen (faulty wiring causing short in controls) I'm back to using a really REALLY old heating pad that I hate - but at least it is reliable and functions.
Stopped Working After 2 1/2 Years - Company: "So What?"

It appears top me the manufacturer (who know who really makes this thing) tried to get tricky with the solid state controler but used low quality design and materials. In theory you can set and adjust the temperature and duration. However, the pad seemed to reach the set temperature and then turn off. Then it stopped working completely after 2 1/2 years. I just called their warranty person who basically said "what do you expect - it only has a 1 year warranty.". The sad state of American industry. My last heating pad lasted over 15 YEARS and had a simple electro-mechanical switch. Please don't sell your junk on Amazon.

Temperature spikes way above the setting, making you have to turn it back down, no light on controls, finally after about year and half, temperature quit, timer still works. no warranty after 1 year. Buy 10.00 heating pad & after 5 years they still work. Save your money.

I bought it in May and it stopped working a month ago: two small wires inside the pad were rubbing against the lead(!) strips and they broke. The pad works well just don't bend it much. the internal wiring needs to be beefed up a bit. Started using my old one from Rite Aid that I've had for years, it cost $20.00

While there aren't a lot of controls on this device, they are not labelled very nor do they work in an intuitive manner at least not to me. The main problem I have is that when I try to increase the temperature during a session the heating seems to stop. If I had spent more on this device I would have returned it.

I have loved this heating pad. Until today. I have only owned it a year and a half and it has stopped heating. The digital display still works but just doesn't heat up. Totally disappointed. Looks like the same thing is happening to other people as well. Up until today, I loved it, but something like this should last longer than a year and half!!!

I ordered a Thera-therm pad, and the company sent a Theraphore pad instead. I have written to the company and will post a follow-up reply when I hear from them and what their response is. As for now, be warned that the company may send the wrong product.
